5500w on 120... (I had to do some laundry)

Post by astronomical »

Had some SJOOW 10-3, a heavy duty 120 plug, and some other odds and ends laying around... I slapped together a little pig tail to run my 5500w on 120... It works great, I thought I was going to run slow, but, 1375 seems to do just fine.. Now I have the luxury of only using teh 220 for the 35-60 minute heat up (depending how fast i wanna bring her to a boil)... Then i shut down and switch cords... Its nice to not have to cripple the dryer for long runs. I don't know why I didn't try this sooner. I bought the parts with this intention. Guess I was thinkin, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

element controller works fine in this configuration as well :)

cheers

I only use one of my 5500w elements on 110v for my pot still. Both for heat up though. But one isn't enough to run my still in reflux mode. And with my new additions I don't think 110v will cut it at all.

NC a MK unit should work fine on 110v. Or can be built so it would work with either.
