bootleg Corn Whiskey sugar wash

Post by 302w »

First off, please don't jump on me for the title. I know Whisk(e)y is nothing like a sugar wash, so let me explain.

I would really like to make a good ol' fashion Corn Whiskey, but I decided that I am too impatient and don't have all of the supplies necessary to do so. I have had good success with Bird Watchers sugar washes, and would like to imitate a good corn whiskey. All I own are an alcometer, hydrometer, pot still, and a five gallon airlocked jug.

I have read that people have had success using "corn sugar" (I suppose HFCS) in sugar washes and had a corn-likker taste afterward. I would like to try a five gallon wash of a lemon, can of tomato paste, the appropriate amount of bakers yeast, and the HFCS equivalent to 10lbs sugar. If I were to throw toasted oak chips into the finished product and have something decent come out of it... I would be happy.

Have you looked at Uncle Jesse's Simple Sour Mash? (UJSSM)

I have looked at UJSSM, as well as NC Hooch's burbon as well.

One day I would like to try some UJSSM, but not right now. Bit too complicated for someone impatient for myself, although I am probably just being a nancy.

What's complicated about UJSSM. Add sugar water to cracked corn. I would say it probably simpler then Birdwatchers. Or about the same. And it would be a lot cheaper then corn sugar.

I like to mix ingredients, wait, distill once, distill again, and drink. Perhaps I am overthinking it, but I really don't want to mess with backsets and mashes until I have had more distillation in my time. I understand UJSSM is a fine drink, and is something I would like to try eventually.

As for now, I think I am going to try this: http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =11&t=7640

Its a cornflake wash. I think I am going to add some cornflakes (or, even if I feel like it, corn meal or cracked corn) to my BW washes and see how it comes out. If it tastes remotely like the commercial "Georgia Moon" brand I have tried, I am going to be happy.

i dont thank your going to have "corn flavor" from corn sugar,,its just to refiend, all the unfermentables have been removed,,and what does not ferment adds to flavor.you could add corn to the ferment but then you will have UJSSM.
you will need to add more than "corn sugar" and yeast any way.that is if you make your wash over 1-2%..
