Airing out your final ?

Post by 1131morg »

How important is it to "air out" your product ? Is it only necessary on your final or keeper run ? and last but not least is there a min. allowance or does it depend on product ? I've read mostly 24 to 48 hours. But have read some for up to a week. Well, maybe one more, Should you air before or after dilute ? I've read both.

Is it necessary? No. Is it a good idea when just starting out. Yes.
Smells and flavors will change over that time. Making cuts easier to make. But if you are use to running the same thing all the time. You already know where to make those cuts.

I start with 24 hr. If I don't like it go to 48 hr. Don't like it then I mite sit on it for a day or two more? Or prepare to rerun it again. Depending on what it is and the desired outcome. I've got some I've been sitting on for 10 months because I wasn't happy with it. But I was waiting on another run of the same thing to finish it out.

Depending on the ambient temps and humidity. Time may be longer or shorter. So in the winter it takes longer to air one out for me. The summer airs quicker for me.

I air uncut off the still. And wait till I have blended what I want to keep before diluting. If I dilute at all?
