My New Boiler & Fermenters

Post by Bayou-Ruler »

Well I have decided to scale up a little.......

This is my 55 Gallon Stainless Steel (drum) boiler. I'm gonna start running stripping runs of 50 gallons of 14%ABV wash.

I picked up the barrel at Bubba's Barrels: http://www.bubbasbarrels.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I was very pleased with the quality of the barrel and the other things I purchased from Bubba's Barrels. I recommend them if you are in the market for a stainless barrel!

These are my 55 Gallon fermenters:

Please understand that I can legally distill ethanol. I have a Alcohol Fuel Producer Permit from the TTB. Be aware that it is illegal to distill spirits in the USA with out either a AFP (Alcohol Fuel Plant) or DSP (Distilled Spirits Plant) Permit from the TTB. (Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau).

That looks nice.
How ya gonna fire that thing BR?

Those barrels are priced nicely,,,,but seems the bulk remainder is not as competitive as others.
What did he charge you for freight if you don't mind my asking?

It's beautiful but that 2 inch column with that tiny, by compairson, lebig is going to take 2 days non-stop to strip that big of a wash.

Good luck

+1, 2" is really small for that size for stripping I am guessing 1 gallon every 4 hours as with my 4" it's about a gallon an hour. With the calculator a 4" is 4 times faster than a 2".

I plan on firing it with propane.

As for the shipping, I ordered the barrel and some other things. The barrel was shipped USPS parcel post and the other items were shipped USPS Priority Mail. My total shipping charge was $35.64. I would not have believed it but.......... a 55 gallon stainless steel barrel is NOT considered an over sized package by the USPS!

I agree the column is small, but it is what I have to work with at the moment. I will definitely add a larger condenser.

I'm jelous.
Too shiny.
Would look better with some mash stains down the side

I don't think it will be long and you'll be uprating the head.
You design it, I make it. Copper and Stainless. Down under. PM me.

How did you do the spigot in the bottom? I've been wanting to do that in mine.

All my tops are removable. But I like how you did yours.

I ordered a KEG weldless bulkhead kit here: http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.ph ... duct_id=91" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

With these options:
- HOSE BARB for valve: 1/2" Hose - SS
- INSIDE OPTION: COUPLING - Standard option
- VALVE: 2 piece valve - SS

You can save a couple of bucks by not getting the COUPLING, because you dont really need it.

So are you gonna watch this beast of a barrell strip for 2 days or do partial runs? I am interested because the SS barrel looks awesome but that small column looks like its gonna be a long while. How long does it take to heat one of those babies up?! Just interested as I am not clear on if its good or bad to stop a still part way through a run
Are those fried pickles dill or sweet?
They're round pickles..

Haven't ran her yet & yes that little 2 inch pot still head is small. probably gonna wind up running a 3 inch column with a much larger condenser. I will be firing her with my 72k BTU Blichmann Propane Burner

Ummm, don't you think you should have put the 2 by material under the cinder blocks, and not on top, where the burner's flames will get to them?? And why bother painting everything? Once the heat gets to it, the paint will just turn into nasty, eye-watering fume material...

Love the shiny barrel and big-ass fermenters, but scratching my head at the rest of your setup....
