Re: yeast question
That all depends on what you want.
If you want a wash that ferments out to a high abv, very quickly, then you want a turbo. If you don't care how long it takes but want a high abv, get a yeast that's rated for a high alcohol tolerance. As others will definitely say after me, read read read, do your research.

Re: yeast question
Depends a bit on what your making, use the turbo for fuel not drinking. Here on HD most use bakers yeast, dried yeast, or ec1118. Different types of brewers yeast work as well.

Re: yeast question
Brewers yeast should be an active beer yeast. Not a brewers yeast nutrient supplement.
Looks like from your other posts. Question about a grain. You want to stay away from turbo. A bakers yeast, beer yeast, or something like EC-1118 would be what you want.
Would also like to point out. That yes this is a forum for asking and learning. But asking a whole bunch of different questions out of the gate. Just shows you haven't really done due research. All your questions can be answered with the info already available here on HD. And you will learn all the other things you need to know. By doing the proper research. As far as ferment questions. Your best option is to go to the tried and true recipe section. Find a recipe you think you want to try. And use it to learn from. But the mist read new distiller reading lounge. should be your first stop.

Re: yeast question
That yeast should work fine for you.
But the yeast should be chosen to fit the recipe. And you don't have a recipe yet. And moonshine can be a great many things to many people. So find a recipe and go from there. First you need to figure out what your definition of moonshine is. So you can find that recipe.

Re: yeast question
That's what I use for most of my of my distillation brews - works pretty well. I've used it with sugarhead, all grain, fruit amongst others and no problems so far. Some of the wine and beer yeasts can give a better flavour profile I'm told but I've not got to that stage yet whilst I still get the basics worked out.ukdistiller wrote:thank you to you both very helpful ..so this would work fine

Re: yeast question
why is it that we can get 125g of that yeast for under $3 USD but 7g of bakers yeast at the grocery store is over $4 USD?

Profit. It's just like anything. You may higher price for a smallest package. To get the convenience of not needing to go to another store.chevyrestore wrote:why is it that we can get 125g of that yeast for under $3 USD but 7g of bakers yeast at the grocery store is over $4 USD?
I can get 2 pounds of bakers yeast at sams or Costco for around $5. And they are usually cheaper then what I can find on line.

Yeah, the Allison's works a treat, used it in a cornflake whiskey, rum and Birdwatchers wash. I use about four tablespoons per 20ltrs.ukdistiller wrote:thank you to you both very helpful ..so this would work fine

Re: yeast question
Costco sells red star bakers yeast. I googled Costco yeast. And got all kinds of hits.
