What are the Craziest/Wildest recipes you've ever heard of?

Post by BrushCountryAg03 »

Howdy y'all,

THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE PROVERBIAL "BOX": I just thought it would be interesting to hear some stories about some really crazy recipes (that most would probably have never thought of) you may have tried or heard of that actually WORKED.

Any thoughts, opinions, criticisms, etc. are appreciated!

"Cock Ale" is a 1500s ale recipe that tastes pretty much how it sounds....crappy white wine, with sad beer with Chicken added :wtf: . Here's the recipe
The recipe for authentic Cock Ale has finally arrived. Boy it sure is scary: COCK ALE (circa the 1500's) A real recipe from some obscure text found in the Scottish Highlands... Enjoy....
Procedure:

"Take 10 gallons of ale and a large cock, the older the better; parboil the cock, flay him, and stamp him in a stone mortar until his bones are broken (you must gut him when you flaw him). Then, put the cock into two quarts of sack, and put to it five pounds of raisins of the sun - stoned; some blades of mace, and a few cloves. Put all these into a canvas bag, and a little before you find the ale has been working, put the bag and ale together in vessel. In a week or nine days bottle it up, fill the bottle just above the neck and give it the same time to ripen as other ale."

Try skipping the bottling, let it ferment to completion. Then run it off fast in a pot still. You'll end up with a weird spiced chicken brandy+beer schnapps , totally overpowered by the mace and cloves, which I'm assuming is a replacement for the hops in the ale recipe. If you do it, PLEEEAAASSSEEEEE post the results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metamucil.
Pics around here somewhere.
Made ok but not worth pursuing with better recipes out there.
Had to try it though.

Fruit Cake Recipe

1 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 cup brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle rum
2 cups dried fruit

Sample the rum to check quality. Take a large bowl; check the rum again to be sure it is of the highest quality. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point, it is best to make sure the rum is still OK. Try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eegs and add to the bowl and chuck iin the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the rum to test for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the rum. Now shift the lemon ice strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 s and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the rum and wipe the counter with the cat.

Wow, I would have loved to have met the man behind this creation...I bet he had some big brass balls as well as imagination and more than likely a combination of BOTH.

I have read about cattail shine. Made from the rhizome or root of a cattail plant. Never tried it but lord knows I could find plenty to give it a shot for free. I could even offer a free cattail thinning service and never pay for sugar again! :silent: :silent:

Funny about the Cock Ale. I'm reading the book The Drunken Botanist and in the book they talk about Mezcal the drink. Mezcal is made from the roasted heart of the agave. Technically it was tequila before tequila was coined. There is actually a recipe where you hung the raw chicken breast in the still and let the vapors pass over it. Think of it as chicken in a gin basket; "The chicken is supposed to balance the sweetness of the fruit". Anyway it was call Pechuga Mezcal.

Well, didnt sound wild or crazy until I made it. Loquat wine would have to be some of the worst! Unless, you like prune juice with alcohol in it! I gave the whole batch to a guy down the road from me who had helped me with some yard work and didnt want me to pour it out. I asked him two weeks later if they drank it. He said yes, it was rough until you drank the first quart then it got okay. The cousins all drinkin it got to fighting and the law had to come out. Strange thing they didnt know why they were fighting but all were in the mood so they let it rip! I cant even imagine what the brandy would have tasted like.

So it kills me when a newbe comes on the site and says I just went to the grocery store and bought 2 apples a pear and 3 bananas would that make good likker. You know you have seen it. I gotta make fun of them.

This is kinda weird and I would say that 99% of all grainers have done it and 1/2 the sugar likkker drinkers do it also. You are drinking likker made for feeding live stock (UJSM and corn made for cows/ horses, and anything sold at tractor supply). You are drinking cow/horse food and liking it. Crazy but true and I get it.
