Sugar Brokers

Post by Ghost »

I doubt any of you would need this much sugar - and I DO NOT use it for distilling but .... I recently got in with a sugar broker and I get 55 gallon drums of table grade for around 70.00 a barrel! Went and got a couple of barrels the other day and this stuff is as clean as what you would get from the store. For those who do a lot of runs in year it might be worth looking into from a cost prospective. Roughly what I get is 6.00 a 5 gallon bucket

That's great! I'd be interested in getting my hands on one of those. What kind of barrel do they come in? How'd you find this broker?

BTW, I'm not interested in this for distilling. My wife started a mail order and internet baking company and goes through a ton of sugar. Also, might be good to sock one of these away for if/when the SHTF. Thanks.

basically the source was handed down to me - as a commercial bee keeper we go through a TON of sugar - no pun, we really do! this is by far the cleanest sugar we have come across.

 Oh I am sorry - I didn't know that it wouldn't be of any interest to anyone else. Im pretty sure this would be posted within the OFF TOPIC section of the forums and there may be some others who might find it interesting for whatever their needs may be. From this point on I will consult with you before I post anything else - sorry.

I will put it another way for you.

I can get gold for $1 a gram, but I'm not telling you where from :moresarcasm:

Did you find that worth sharing? I imagine you just found it irritating.

Some would rather not post their suppliers in the open forums. So a pm would be a better method to convey this info. No need to get all cranky about it.

There is nothing cranky about 6 words?
Did you see the bit where he said pm sent? Or where he answered my 6 word post to say this? The opportunity was there.

What are you posting for? Just want to stir it round a bit? The subject matter sure don't need your input.

There are other bee keepers on this forum, it was the off topic section so I thought I would post it up. if they are interested in the source - then they could pm me. A lot of bee keepers don't know about sugar brokers and it proves to be cost savings to them. Again sorry if my post offended you in any form or fashion.

Someone does sound a touch edgy...

How much does a 55 gallon drum full of sugar weigh?

That seems like an unbelievable quantity. But for a working farm, it makes sense. And not just for hooch, but other applications like the bee keeping that was mentioned.

350 -400 lbs of sugar in a 55 gallon drum. If you don't have a tractor or bobcat to unload it with you have to get creative!

A ramp, and tied off 550 paracord with a truckers hitch. Then dolly it round.

My 140 lbs can get that in and out of a pickup on my lonesome, right quick. (I used to be a mover)

In the spring we can go through a 55 gallon drum of sugar in a week depending on how it is mixed.

Damn man that really is a helluva price for that amount of sugar. I'm used to paying $13/25lbs at Costco, but recently found it for $1.64/4lbs at Aldi which is a bit better. I take it you pick it up from the source cause shipping would be astronomical ...

Well that is about half price for me buying from Sam's. However, the drive to Athens from here would eat all the savings with a vengence! Unless you are wholesaling out of Sugartown. I will buy you a couple barrels sugar or three for a barrel of honey! Friendly1uk just dont understand cuz, probably pissed the queens tariff on sugar is higher than we can get here in the colonies and has his knickers pulled up too damned tight. Nottofrienly1uk.

Yep I pick it up - they have it staged for me in 5 gallon buckets and I have to dump it in my 55 gallon drum or swap out 5 gallon buckets for it.

Flatwoods - with the price of honey - you would come out on the winning end of that deal! we are currently getting 13.50 a pound with the horrible weather this year and lack of a spring nectar flow. But I will still let you buy me some sugar!

as for friendly - shoot man, anyone can have a bad day! Oh and walmart up here has 40 lbs for 19.00 - so there is the source on that one! but that sugar aint for the bees!
