Turbo yeast not working

Post by Timeking »

I just mixed up 4 buckets of turbo wash
3 of them are bubbling like crazy and one is just
sitting there with foam on top. Does the Yeast
go bad? All buckets are the same and the yeast
came from the same box.

It has foam on top. But its not working? How do you know its not working? Foam usually means its working.

I have some with disstillers yeast as well and I am doing
fine with it. I personally don't like the taste of the turbo
but I have one strange friend that seems to enjoy the odd
( flavor ) it gives off. But I am gonna try some thing to
remove the funky taste.

Yes, yes, and yes I understand nobody on here likes turbo yeast
but it is a experiment I bet we have all tried thing nobody agrees with
and I guess this is one of them. But what if I did come up with
something to get the nasty out of it. Wouldn't you like to know?

My question to you would be use something that costs more and tastes so bad it needs to be fixed. I don't say "do not use it", it's your time and money. Not many on here with long time experience with turbo to answer properly.
Good luck to ya

No. Dont make nasty to begin with. I dont like to bandaid a broke product. Anyway, not here to dog you, you got lot of that already from the others. Here to say that bucket is probably just leaking. Several of my brew buckets having leaky snap on tops. No bubbling through the airlock, but lots of activity.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Not going to criticize turbo, but economically speaking, a packet of turbo is 6.95 at my local brewshop, enough for 6 gallons of sugar wash. A pound of bakers yeast is 4.95 at the local market, can't say how many gallons that it will do but that's a lot of tablespoons. It works well and leaves no bad tastes. I am making whiskey so High ABV sugar washes are not in my future. I am betting that you will come to the same conclusion, the price is not worth the hassle.

Get an aquarium air pump with some air stones and put them in your water container. It will do 2 things. Dechlorinate your tap water and makes lots of bubbles. Sorry I couldn't resist! Reminds me of the part in the Disney movie finding Nemo where the fish is mesmerized by the air bubble in the tank.
