You originally asked the speed and temperature of water to run through a condensor. Thats an impossible question to answer with the amount of information you gave in your first post. Nobody knew the size of your condensor or the power input you were using.
The answers you got from Holy and Yttrium were spot on for the amount of info you gave. What they said will work to find the most efficient use provided your condensor can handle your system.
Then you come back sounding rather hostile inferring that others are implied the still spirits site of lying. I am not familiar with one of those and 500 ml may very well be the amount required to meet the needs of that particular still.
And to this point, we still don't know if you have a still spirits still, just read that cooling rate from their site and want to apply it to a still you built, or what the case may be.
The advice Tater gave you to read the website was a way of letting you know that reading the site would show you the parameters you would need to calculate the cooling water flow rate and temperatures and that there are differences for each still.

yeah sorry if it seemed that i was hostile but quite the opposite and sorry that you interprated it that way. i wasn't saying that any of you were lying i would trust you all rather than a commerical site.
well have a still spirit still. super reflux condensor with a 25ltr 3in1 fermenter 1000 watt( not sure about the wattage)

get a pump
Firstly the simple answer is you run enough water at a rate to cool all the vapour. So if your concerned about wasting water because you are running it too fast. then get a small pond pump and re-cyle the water into a bucket or sink. put a few frozen drink bottles in the bucket and you can run the same water around and around and around. Not a drop is wasted. you may need to add extra ice during the run but that really depends on how big your batch is.

Re: get a pump
Although you may not waste any water with that method, how much electricy are you wasting freezing water? I guess if I was paying for water and not electricy, I would use that method.Anonymous wrote: put a few frozen drink bottles in the bucket and you can run the same water around and around and around. Around here you can lay a 50 foot hose out through the snow in the back yard and push your recycled cooling water through that with your pond pump.Yttrium wrote:Anonymous wrote: how much electricy are you wasting freezing water?
Works a treat.

My freezer is running all the time to freeze meat and other frozen foods, so freezing drink bottles doesn't really cost any more! Well it may cost a faction more as the compressor may have to run a little bit extra to bring the temp of the freezer back down when I first put bottles in. But then again once the bottles are frozen they actually keep the freezer at or close to 0 deg C and so the compressor doesn't need to run as often. So in fact I think I am saving electricity by freezing bottles and keeping them in my freezer. And if the power ever goes off the frozen bottles will keep the food from defrosting and going off so again I am saving money because I don't need to buy new food.

Re: Freezing Drink Bottles
Water gives off a significant amount of heat when it freezes, much more than when it is cooled a few degreesWell it may cost a faction more as the compressor may have to run a little bit extra to bring the temp of the freezer back down when I first put bottles in.
The heat transfer into your freezer should be the same whether or not there are bottles of frozen ice in there. But then again once the bottles are frozen they actually keep the freezer at or close to 0 deg C and so the compressor doesn't need to run as often.
This is true, but how often does your power go off for a long enough period of time for the food in your freezer to go bad. Also, of the times that the freezer goes off for a long enough time, in how many instances would few extra hours that the frozen bottles of water add make a difference???if the power ever goes off the frozen bottles will keep the food from defrosting and going off so again I am saving money because I don't need to buy new food.

Gee this place gets more imformative every day
How about running a radiator with anti freeze/boil in it.
Works in a car why not in a still.
Well for one i guese a car only needs cooling to 90 deg C or there abouts
so i spose thats a little hot for what we want.
mind you a big fan on the radiator might keep it way cooler.
Shit you would want a leak in the wrong place, being that anti freeze/boil is rather toxic.

Oh don't kid yourself, it's been mighty cold here ever since the Red Sox won the series. The Chemist wrote:Just caught that one, Fourway (from Feb. 15). I wouldn't have expected much snow in "The Hinges of Hades"

i don't think that would work for me we havent seen snow around here since the last ice ageAround here you can lay a 50 foot hose out through the snow in the back yard and push your recycled cooling water through that with your pond pump.
