Hi from deepest darkest wales !

Post by Asbo »

Hey folks relatively new distiller here got 10-12 runs under my belt but been brewing for 30 years recent years have been mostly mead .
came here on the recommendations of Jesse from still it , which puzzled me when i read how much animosity there is toward him and George from barley and hops , im guessing if it was not for those 2 this place would have half the members ?
anyway... im a qualified blacksmith a qualified ex (British) army gunsmith and a qualified tree surgeon ( i add the qualified as you can do all all of these with zero qualifications and im big on having the paperwork to back up my big mouth :-) also been a bouncer for 30 years ...which helps with the big mouth situation lol

currently doing sugar washes and yes that damned turbo yeast , currently have 100 lts on the go i dont speak American but think thats 20-24 gallons ?
just checked 2 mins ago and i have half of it in one container and its at 16% and still bubbling ! but has been going for 3+ weeks

i am big on asking questions and keen to step away from turbo yeast assuming i can get Better results not just better quality in someone else's opinion.
currently have a t500 and getting 4.5 ltrs at 94% from 25 ltrs sugar wash if anyone is getting better please feel free to tell me how , also very keen to meet some one else in the UK doing this for longer and better than me !
as you can tell i waffle and i also work nights so will be here most nights (GMT) . thanks folks talk soon.

Welcome. I believe you are mistaking on one point. There is nothing but respect for Jesse at still it, in fact we have stickied and featured his videos here on HD. He learned from here, and passed the info along correctly.

George is the opposite. He is not the same as Jesse. George apparently spent no real time learning about proper distillation, and then started making videos and a profit from poor technique. He is entertaining to watch, but he has false information that makes him money. You'll see.

On that note, don't use tempature to control your still. There's an early Easter egg for you. Don't use a PID.

Hope you enjoy the community here. Great people .

Hi Asbo,

Another huge fan of Jesse here. I learnt a lot of basics from him while my still was in the mail. definitely made it easy to cram info by having vids to watch and was able to hit the ground running. I watched so much of his stuff my kids all know the sound of his voice and have a good groan when he comes on. hahaha. They wont be complaining when they get a home made 10yr old whiskey for their 18th
Sooner or later the people who run the planet all end up choosing one drink....
