Pot still design for a 3x8 sheet of 16 oz. copper

Post by Skwidmasta »

Hello anyone who reads this. I am new to the forum and I hope I am posting this in the right place. I need some help because I am currently trying to design my first copper pot still. I recently just purchased a 3X8 sheet of copper from an acquaintance who owns a roofing company. I am trying to figure out what size still I can fit on this size sheet of copper. I really like PintOshine's design and would love to follow that but I am not positive if simply doubling the measurements for his 12 gallon still will give me right measurements. I am not a math wiz and I will never claim to be. I just don't want to get frustrated and attempt to wing it and mess up $200 dollars worth of copper. So my question is if there is a an existing plan for a similar style of still that I can fit on this size sheet or if anybody has any helpful advice in designing a still to fit on this size sheet. I am sure this question has been posted before but seeing as my only access to the internet is at my local library I don't have the time to read through all the posts. I apologize in advance if this question is repetitive.

Much thanks.

There is a PDF available for a 12 gallon version... Google "pintoshine pot still"...

If this would be your first still you might want to consider setting that copper sheet aside and building a simple pot still to play with before committing to that design... A build like that is something you'll want to take your time on and you might even discover an alternate design or modifications...

I really like pintOshine's kentucky style still apposed to a regular pot still and I feel confident in my ability to replicate his design. my only issue is that the design is meant to fit on a 14 square foot sheet of copper where as I am dealing with a 24 square foot sheet of copper. I want to make the largest possible still. I don't intend on using any copper sheeting to make the flake stand because i can't think of any reason other than aesthetic ones as to why I would. I just want to make the largest possible possible still I can with the materials I am getting. A smaller and simpler pot still would probably be better than something so large and complex for a beginner but I have never been one for being moderate.

I'm sure if you're that dead set on building something big for your first build then you could probably scale up Pinto's templates. You might not use every square inch of your copper, but you would get the most out of it. He also has a 12 gallon still design on the website too. Just don't go burning yourself out on the first build and turning yourself off to the whole hobby.
