Re: CB radio
just reading back this thread, stillanoob's comments reminded me of times long ago. In the late 70's, early 80's i worked in two-radio and mobile entertainment electronics for about 5 years. The guy that owned the store actually was given a gold plated cobra 29 cb radio, as the the highest selling ...

I have listened to people talk to the ISS on CB. Conditions didn't connect me but I could here both sides of the q-so. I am un welcome on Ham. I talk shit, don't obey the rules, don't like test, like my echo, and doing whatever I want being free in the USA. If I want to be restricted I'll talk ssb....

Re: CB radio
The HR2510 radio has somewhat of a cult following. It had a much better receiver than the average CB. Yes, I agree. It was among the first of the new digital wave at the time along with what we called the ranger 2910. I was more of a Galaxy fan, still am. I have owned several and there knock of che...

Re: CB radio
Back in the day I bought a Uniden HR2510, 10 meter mobile that had been "Modified" to cover 11meter CB band. That led me to get my Ham License about 5 years later. Did a LOT of DX chasing with it. as far as Hand Held I had an older Heath HW24HT 2M (146 mhz) & 70CM (440 mhz) that was s...

I was a few years back but the CB frequencies around here were dead. Much more happening on the PMR and business frequencies but even those are moving over to encrypted now. I did pick up some foreign chatter once but once I'd got past the initial "oh listen I've picked up another country!&quo...

Re: CB radio
I've got a couple used for jeeps and trucks, bumped up to 10w (2 is supposed to be legal limit here without licensing). Since UHF got so cheap I just run that, the handhelds go further than a vehicle mounted CB did. Living in Colorado 4 watts is the legal limit. But who only has 4 watts? You had a ...

Re: building a worm specs
I apolligize for my apparent ignorance on the subject. I did not know that it would have such huge impact on the functions. I use ice for my boka recirculating cooling and have not had any problems in that manner described. But apparently the same physics cannot be applied here. I don't own a worm,...

Re: building a worm specs
If ice is required then the entire cooling system needs to re-evaluated and modified... Ice is is piss poor crutch... If you've used ice you know you have a cooling problem that needs to be addressed ASAP... It's been discussed more than enough times, to the point where we shouldn't have to keep ex...

Re: Copper Sizing for "Worm" Condenser
Okay I see what you guys mean about the $#!++y 1500W hotplate... Just did Watts to BTU conversion, 1500W is 6K BTU... Quite a joke indeed. I know at one time, the no-no boiler size here was 25G, now seems to be 30G. Let me start by saying good Lord, I would NEVVVER exceed 30G... But if one were to,...

Why would I want to open a new thread when this was the topic I wanted to talk about?
I had already read this one and responders should have already read this thread. If I had opened a new thread it would end up repeating what was said here. I don't understand opening a new thread.

Re: Can condenser be too cold?
I didn't realize the video was of a column. But I would still think if he turned the heat down when it was huffing it would stop huffing and smooth out just like when he turned the water down? So a condenser from a column can be to cold? Can a condenser from a pot still with a thumper be to cold? Th...

sorry for the newbie question, I have done one run as of now and getting ready for my second In reference to turning up the heat a little. I have a temperature gauge at the top of my column and I ran my first run between 175F and 190F degrees (180F was 80% of my run). how many degrees would you say...

Re: Can condenser be too cold?
Appling CPR on this subject. Is huffing the only issue with a long cold condenser? If it's not huffing then its not to cold??? My 12" liebig goes into a worm inside of a swamp cooler. One pump serving the 12" liebig leaving the thumper going into the worm liebig inside the swamp cooler and...

Re: Esters: A reading list to understanding them better
No amount of books and papers will teach me more than experimental experience. Its a shame that not all seem to understand that , some seem to just spout endless theory, while at the same time having very little practical experience. It sounds like some people know more theory because they are luck...

Re: Esters: A reading list to understanding them better
I disagree to a point.Single Malt Yinzer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2017 4:27 pm Distillers we do not want to have unfermentable sugars in the wort nor do we care about the body of the beer. Neither ends up carrying over to the distillate.
A sweet wort shows up in the flavor of the spirit.
Body I believe has some kind of effect on the spirit as well.

Re: Using a coffee machine to percolate flavours into spirits.
I made the inside of a percolator out of copper for inside my still. It comes up threw my basket and stops half way between my normal full and the top of my still cap. My hope is that it percolates over the flavor solids in the basket to create more flavor in the spirit. I also use a thumper with my...

I've also been experimenting with power settings, I read that it is possible to run too slow, and powered up more during hearts. This increased my hearts cut by about 2 bottles on the heads side! Now as I said this is going on oak for quite a while (well, its a while for me!), six months to a year,...

Re: How do You run Cold and Slow?
Thanks for your replies';
Otis That's very interesting and good to know. I have an internal element with a controller. How long did Your runs take with your hot plate?
I think the amount of power vs temp vs speed is the key. No reason for me to try to speed it up.
Thanks again, Runt
