when you soldered the ends and inet and outlet was the area with the hotspot on the bottom?if so you may have a spot of solder that bridges the gap between the two pipes causing heat to transfer directly to the outside...just guessing here

Re: Compressed heads and fores ???

Compressed heads and fores simply means that your column is stacking the lighter/lower boiling point alcohols in a faster curve to pure ethanol(or a pure as your particular column can make it).The b line pot still has a slower curve more mixed product where the head are slowly dropping in concentrat...

I can't imagine room temperature alcohol with a second or two contact with a plastic funnel could or will have much of a problem...simply because 99% of the product doesn't really touch the plastic at all.put it in the freezer first if you are really that concerned.

I call a do over....I just got mine built and odin changed the rules!

ps I looked up the disease and it is a result of the inherited trait that copper is in over abundance and causes problems...not the other way around.

run a good whiskey recipe through a reflux still and you will be done...oak char ageing is up to you...most Canadian whiskeys I've seen had a pretty light color so don't over oak them....the best part of this hobby is the experimenting.

maybe for the column but if it is used for the coil the heat transfer to the coolant won't be as efficient.....fill a glass with boiling water then filled a copper pipe and tell me which is hotter on the out side faster

turn up the heat till you get the slightest bit of alcohol steam vapor along with your steady thin stream then dial back the heat a bit till the vapor disappears....at that point your output equals your ability to cool it to a liquid
