Is that the law just because it's alr land? If so, and you really want to take a plunge have you looked at some non alr property to buy and build / renovate for a distillery?

Re: Decreasing downtimes between runs?
Build a small coil. Run line from condenser to coil that you put in the fermenter/wash container and then a line from the coil to your water barrel or drain. Will also help cooling water stay cooler longer.

Alright I'll try that out tonight if I don't go into a turkey induced coma . A turkey just doesn't taste as good if the method of cooking the turkey doesn't have a good chance of killing you painfully.

Btw steam mashing is the way to go,. It also makes life easier when I need 50 gallons of boiling water to dip one of my buddies hogs to scrape his hide.

Re: Slightly Scorched Rye
I did a 50 gallon mash of corn oats and rye...had a very small like 1 inch scorch mark in the groove of the ss Barrell. Smelled ok so I put it to fermenting...smelled awesome....ran it..decided to give it a taste a few jars into the run and promptly gagged/ strangled. If I even think it's scorched, ...

Re: Mesh inside SS tubing
Hey thanks I never thought of that. You hear so much about the vapor path it doesn't dawn on you to try a different approach. I've got some scrap copper laying around from replacing my gas line to the house, I'll cut a couple 8 inch to foot long sections and toss a couple in the boiler and thumper w...

Mesh inside SS tubing
Probably a dumb question, but my entire rig is ss. Bout the only way I could get copper on the vapor path would be to put a little in the tubing from the pot to thumper and thumper to condenser. Worried about a blockage doing that. Thought of just putting a small gauge copper wire through it, but th...

In all honesty, perhaps you may want to wait until your monetary situation improves before getting into this hobby. It's not cheap to do, nor will you get good results if you try going the cheap route.

Re: Recommend water level gauge/sight glass
Well, they say necessity creates innovation. Looking price wise, my most expensive parts were the 2 inch to 3/4 inch nipple, the flange, valves and keg. I can cut those out and easily clean. The rest will go to junk pile, and the keg can be cut, cleaned and I have a big stew pot. I can get a 100 pou...

Recommend water level gauge/sight glass
Earlier today I had mashed 100 pds of corn. Loved how easy it was. Figured Id do a Sweet Feed as well, since I love it. So, since Id only mashed once today, I figured I was still good on water, and since it was still hot, Id save gas on the heat up time. So I fill another barrel, toss in the sweetfe...

Re: Safety
I would recommend water level gauge. Cause you don't want to run dry and then melt gasket material all into your keg and blow it thru your copper lines into your sweet feed mash. I am so pissed right now. Im sure the keg is gone, but any ideas on what I can soak all my copper piping in to get rid of...

Steam mashing 100 lbs southern strutter sweet feed. Plan on adding 10 lbs of rye at the end. Found broosy? Rye at a different feed store today, way more selections than the store near town.

Does your rig have the reflux piping in the head? If so you could take a copper pipe drill a hole in the end and hang it from one of the Cross tubes with copper wire

Re: Copper Pipe instead of mesh
The one prob I have with brewhaus is of you have the thumper attached there's no way to put mesh in the vapor path unless you stick a little in the tube..and that may not be a great idea to do so. But I have thought of putting a little length of copper wire in, maybe give it a couple small spirals t...

Re: Copper Pipe instead of mesh
It's just the citric acid from the brew shop, think it's made by BG or so. I toss a spoon full in a plastic coffee can and throw the mesh in and let it sit overnight or so

Re: Copper Pipe instead of mesh
I wouldn't think you'd have the surface area. But with your mesh, you don't have to toss it. Just soak it in a citric acid solution. I only toss mine when it's pretty much disintegrating. I have a brewhaus rig too, I never use copper packing while I'm running in pot mode. I could really not tell the...

Clumsy with enzymes....
Small question, I was doing another booners today, and after adding my liquid alpha amalayse I sat it on the corner of my shelf to give the barrel a good stir. I then promptly elbowed the bottle over and had about a quarter of the bottles worth spill into the barrel. I finished the procedure and let...
