$1.47 for unleaded, $1.54 for diesel. Per litre.
Glad the ute doesn't run on milk though, at $2.40 a litre, or worse still on beer at $4 a litre. Coke runs out at $2 something a litre, servo or corner shop prices...
I guess bottled spring water'd be dearer than fuel at the servo

Odd one for first post i know..... But if you boys think youve got it bad here in the "Land of Hope & Glory" were paying per gallon the equivalent of $9.86 usd for petrol, and $10.59 usd for diesel.

I guess there aren't too many V8's in England. I've got a 5 litre (XR8) that goes through the juice but I guarantee it wouldn't be the case at that price!

Here's something I have always wondered about. Every drop of gasoline in Minnesota and Wisconsin comes from Alberta. Why is it so much cheaper there than in Ontario? 60% of the oil imported into the US comes from Canada--most Americans are unaware of this fact.
I understand from some oil men I know that the Province of Alberta has an unlimited supply of oil in the tar sands--thats at present rates of consumption and they told me to make it feasible to extract they need the price to stay up around $70 per barrel. It hit $110 yesterday and I sent them an e-mail--its gonna cost them guys alot more to go fishing in my front yard next year!

The oil may be located in Canada, but the companies that drill for it are multinationals and most of the control comes from the states...Us in Canada (well I am) are very aware that the oil from Canada is being sold for less in the states then it is in the United States. But I'll stop there or this will get political.

Averaging $3.379 USD per US gallon here today... Kinda hard for us to figure how the closer we are to the refinery, the more we pay... If we were to follow the tankers that pass through here, from the same refinery, to their destinations, we could buy it cheaper... Doesn't even pay to drive to the Indian reservations to gas up these days because you spend more for the round trip than you'll save... A few years ago it was worthwhile...
I don't think that my following answer is political, though it can be construed as a bit of political science.mikeac wrote:The oil may be located in Canada, but the companies that drill for it are multinationals and most of the control comes from the states...Us in Canada (well I am) are very aware that the oil from Canada is being sold for less in the states then it is in the United States. Mikeac -- Actually there's a much less conspiratorial answer -- the excise taxes are different. Canada is a soft-socialist state (much like most European countries), and thus tends to higher taxes on "luxuries", i.e. alcohol, tobacco and fuel. The US has always tried to keep its fuel cheaper (to fuel the economy and to keep US citizens happy (they are after all, used to cheap gas, so woe to the govt. that raises gas prices by raising excise taxes...)
As to oil being sold to the US cheaper than in Canada? I seriously doubt it -- oil is a commodity, and no-one, not even friends of the US, sell oil cheaper than it is valued on the world market. These days, with the supply of oil becoming more and more iffy (because of regional wars, hurricanes, production decline and new fields coming online very slowly) the price of oil is a lot less important to the US (or ANY country, for that matter, than a RELIABLE supply).
Aidas
p.s. by "soft socialist", I'm not making a value-statement (though I could ), I'm just saying that it is social-democratic leaning (the Europeans will understand what I'm saying), i.e. left wing, but not communist.

One of the major cost of gasoline and Diesel is the transportation cost.
The transportation cost is high because gasoline and diesel is so high which makes the gasoline and diesel price go up which makes the transportation cost go up which makes the gasoline and diesel prices go up, etc...etc... etc....

There is a web site I always look at prior to filling up (to find the best prices). That site is:
http://www.omahagasprices.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
Here are the "maps" for pricing for US (based on ave priced mid-grade regular unleaded)
http://www.omahagasprices.com/price_by_county.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
Not sure how many communities have web pages like this, but I bet many do.

An interesting note on international fuel prices. In Canada most pumps have three octane levels gold, silver and bronze. The price for gold is obviously more expensive then silver which is more expensive then bronze. I am no car buff but I believe the only difference is octane??
Australia on the other hand only has one type of unleaded petrol which happens to have the same octane as Canada's gold...
Thought that was kinda interesting, my father in-law pointed it out to me (who shames me with his car knowledge )

well, coming from someone who drives a car which needs 98 octane i can say this simply isnt true. not all outlets sell 98, or even 95 octane. and thats perth metro... not including the regional areas where they dont have large multi pump outletstracker0945 wrote:Nah - it's country widemikeac wrote:Huh, there ya go then, I did a quick google to try and back it up, maybe it's only in northern oz (father in-law is in cairns?)....
