I am getting ready to build a pot still column for whiskey. I have a 18" piece of 2" copper an was going to use a 2" to 1/2 " reducer coming straight of the top of the column.Then down to a coil.
Will this work or will it be way to slow?
beer keg
propane heat.
Thanks guys.
Will this work or is it to small?

I went from 2" to 3/4. A 6 gallon wash takes 2 1/2 hours to strip. I am a noob so I cant say if that is slow or not. Seems slow to me.
This is so much fun it ought to be illegal..wait..never mind.
51" LM and a 24" Pot still with 62" Liebig with turbulator and spiral coolant swirler thingy. Both running on an unmodified keg with Tri-clover clamp attachment.

@pro65...
Using 1/2" copper should be just fine as long as you have enough of it to cool all of the distillate... Of course 5/8 or 3/4 would provide more surface area but not substantially more...
@FeralPig...
2.5 hours for 6 gallons doesn't sound slow to me...

This is what I am talking about, my column will go from 2" to a 1/2" take-off and I will add a peice of 1/2" tubing to go down to the worm.

I would put in a 2" 90 degree turn at the top of the 2" column, there would be less stress ond less chance of acidental bending on the 1/2" tubing.
