Homemade Rum
I am having a bunch of people come up next week and I have heard that rum is quick and relatively easy to make. Can anybody give me a play by play of how I could make it? I am completely new to home distiling though I have been brewing beer for a few years. I just don't know where to begin.
Re: Homemade Rum
There is no 'quick and easy' way to safely make quality drinking spirits.
This hobby ain't for the half committed. If you are gonna do it, then do it right and safe.
Start reading the 'New to Distillation' forums, especially 'Novice Distillers'.

Welcome to the forums, jcannon46609...
I have to agree with HookLine, there is no quick way to make good Rum... I don't think you'll be able to make something that tastes like aged Rum in a week, start to finish, because you won't have time for airing or aging... You might be able to get neutral spirits in that amount of time if you know what you're doing, but not Rum...
If you're serious about the home distillation craft then you should plan on starting out slowly and do plenty of research... Just rushing in an attempt to impress friends and family will just leave you with egg on your face and a bunch of folks who will forever be leary of trying your spirits in the future... Take your time and do it right... We're hear to help answer questions along the way...
Good luck, and good reading...

Re: Homemade Rum
you'd be lucky if it fermented in a week and no talk of having time to clear.------------vesou ?

Next week? No problem. Go to the liquor store, buy some Bacardi 8 Year, pour it out into a few mason jars, and impress the heck out of your friends.

It's just not gonna happen any other way.
You will need a month (or so) to get some time under your belt.
And then a month to get a passable "mixer" rum ready........(IMHO).
Sipping rum????????? years away.
