Not too far "off topic"...

Rummaging around this past weekend, in one of my father's barns





Years ago, he had made a "fryer frame" and had this sitting in it. Huge old water heater burner as well. Never used it.

Couldn't remember where the pot came from.

Early American for sure....found some info on "apple butter kettles"...they all have a loop handle???

Not sure what this was actually "made" for......any historians aboard?

Man, I can see the beginnings of an awesome pot still....but this thing has to be worth over $300

I could be wrong but that pot looks like it was copper plated and the copper has been worn through on the inside... A good cleaning would be in order before you can determine that... But you could test it with a magnet to see if there is ferrous metal under the copper...

No rad, solid copper.

With the exception of the handles....affixed with copper rivets.

Man it's heavy.....probably 15-20 lbs.

The "dove-tail" seams are clearly visible up the side, and where the bottom was affixed.

The line around it, 1/2 way up in the top pictures...is from where it had been sitting in the ring he had made. (of metal rebar)

Cut up and boil some lemons with a drop of water, the acid from the lemons should clean it up nice

Good idea....I know it don't leak. Boiled some water last night.

I've cleaned it up a bunch with the vinegar,salt,flour,lemon juice concoction.

Trying to find some kind of "manufacturer stamp" on it.....no luck yet.

A marking would be nice but it aint gonna matter. Hell your liable to chop it up into a dog gone nice apparatice then render the antique value to a minimal status.

Solid copper is a damn nice find.


I hope you put it to good use and render some first rate likker.

The seams are kinda "simple" after seeing some other antique stuff, although as thick as it is, that may be why...man I wish you could look into "old" stuff you run across and view it's history.

Haven't even measured it yet...looks to be about 10 gallons.

I can bet my paycheck (or two)....this has never cooked m...my dad is way too layed back. And, he has all his (original) teeth

Lead....hell, I've inhaled and ingested enough of that crap to build up an immunity (the cost of being fast)
