I have just made a wash based on Birdwatchers Sugar Wash Recipe with changes.
6 kg sugar
2 cups sultana bran
2 cups all-bran
1 tsp citric acid (had no lemons)
pinch of epsom salt
pinch of bi-carb of soda
90 gr of bakers yeast
Water and ingredients up to the 26 litre mark on the fermenter.
After 3 days the airlock is popping every 2-3 seconds.
Any comments on this wash?

Be interesting to see if the sultana flavour comes over.
6 kg of sugar in 26 litres gives you about 13.5 % abv, which is pushing bakers yeast to its limits, and the stress on the yeast will add a lot of off flavours to the ferment.
Try 4.5 kg (= 10.2 %).
My rule of thumb is 1 kg sugar per 6 litres (= 9.8 % abv).

You should have enough nutrients in that wash for a full ferment as long as you keep it warm enough for the bakers yeast to do its job...

The temp is sitting on about 27 deg and the airlock is popping every 5 sec.
Thanks for the info. As I'm still fairly new to this form of art, there's heaps more to learn.
What sort of off-taste am I likely to encounter? I've used dextrose with turbo yeast and turbo clear previously and it tasted OK. Used Birdwatchers recipe before and it tasted OK too.
I guess that the bourbon etc mixed with coca-cola makes it taste ok.
