Newfie on board

Post by coppercraft »

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but I've been distilling for quite a few years. I've used the other resources of Home Distiller as my bible for several of the stills that I built. Here in Newfoundland, there's a strong tradition of making everything yourself, including what we drink. I finally joined to ask questions about improving my washes.

I’m certainly not an expert in copper work but I enjoy making stills. The current one is a Bokakob derivative. The packed column is 2” diameter 36” tall and it will distill to the azeotropic limit.

The still was designed to be easy to clean and everything comes apart for inspection and cleaning. The condenser is in two halves, the outer shell with copper coils and the inner which is a plain cylinder.

The boiler cover is fabricated sheet copper and it does increase the alcohol % slightly in comparison with the original flat cover. Next modification is an increase in column length.
