long time reader first time poster

Post by yooper »

well after reading for the past few months on here and around the net I finally ordered a still from milehi. (the 15 gal/3in) Will probably go and look into building one within a year or so, but I thought I would start out with that. I have an idea for a few recipes after I think I have gerber down to my liking. The biggest thing is that i work at a coffee shop where we sell smoothies. So I figured I would save up the dribs and drabs left over in the blender pitchers and see what i can do with those. seeing as they are mostly sugar and fruit to begin with anyway. and again with more smoothies... we have another smoothie that has a sugared powder, milk, and ice combo. i want to see if and/or what can be done with that. and trying the wild yeast from my sourdough like ammo man did. well i guess that is it for now. thanks for being here :D

Greetings, yooper...

Your first still should serve you well for many years, but I can understand your itch to build...

Be careful not to introduce too much milk fat from your coffee shop waste... Not too sure how much yeast like caffeine either...

Good luck...

the caffine and yeast question you just posed made me go hmmm? so i googled: yeast caffeine.
this is one report i just found
http://www.miller-mccune.com/science-en ... east-4472/
that is a hell of a concept. how about adding a can of coke or mtn dew to the mash? or going all out and adding a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso? i'll have to give it a shot and find out. (tho it might not be for a while since i am too new and don't feel like i have the early-on know-how), but i will definatly be keeping that in mind for an experiment soon down the road.
