My current setup

Post by submdi »

I had an account on these forums some time ago, but I guess at some stage memberships expired or were reset? No matter...

Anyway, thought I'd post up a couple of pics of my still how I run it now.

I think the pics explain themselves well enough, but am happy to answer any questions that may arise.

BTW, this user name is the same I used in the past, so, with a search some questions could be answered, as I have posted info about this still when I was building it.

Looks like a really nice dedicated space.

Is it problematic to clean your scrubbers and charge your boiler and so forth?

This setup is not permanent. The bracket for the column has butterfly nuts that allow release of the column.
The scissors lift below the burner allows the pot to be lowered and raised to the lid.
After a run, the whole setup is packed away.
I will upload a few more pics later to try and better show the value of this setup.

More explanation:

My boiler is only 15 litres.
My washes are 22 litres. Which means I can only run about 10 or so litres per run. This has always been a pain in the arse.
I've wanted a larger boiler for a long time, but have never got around to sorting that out.

Solution:

1. Make bracket to secure column - check
2. Make jack to raise and lower boiler - check

Now when I setup for a batch, I only have to touch the column while setting up, and then only when packing up.
I can now fill the boiler with 10 litres. Raise it to the lid. Seal it. Then strip run for about 2 hours from heat on to done.
Then I just lower the scissor jack, which breaks the seal.
Dump the waste. Re-fill the pot. Raise to seat with lid. Re-seal and run.

The change over is now an easy 5 minute process.

Once the second half is stripped, it's almost as quick to setup for the final run (allowing for cleaning the boiler this time).
