On the bottom ring that sit on the ground try to scratch it with something hard, if it does not gouge it is stainless.

Have you checked for the SS stamp? Mine has one but it's very faint and really hard to find unless I look really hard.

what kind of keg is it? how old is it? most all these days are stainless. but most folks still think there aluminum. I know i was the same way. if its a bitch to drill, its stainless  i think a magnet will stick lightly to the stainless keg also.
can you post a pic?

I'm not sure what part of the world your in but my hands have been on kegs on a Daly basis. For 20 years. Ice never laid hands on an aluminum keg. I'm don't think they exist honestly. at least not in the USA.

The wear on it, you can see it has been around and if it was aluminum it wound have gouges in it instead of marks.

Agreed, stainless will be mildly magnetic due to the chromium content. I've never seen a keg in the US/Can that was aluminium and that one is definitely ss. Good luck with your build.

Stainless, for the reasons given... Also, I'm not aware of Coors ever having used aluminum kegs...

I saw Spartanburg stamped on the keg so i looked that up and It said this " Spartanburg Stainless Steel Products Inc. of Spartanburg, SC, produces a full range of stainless steel beer kegs". And i thank everyone for their response. You are great people and this site is the best.
