sealing fittings with teflon tape

Post by still crazy »

Just a quick way to seal fittings using teflon tape

First wrap the bare pipe with tape 1 or 2 wraps will do it
then extend the tape down to below where the fitting will slide on
note the way I am holding the tape the outside face of the roll in contact to the pipe
this allows the tape to play off the roll as you apply it

Now slip on the fitting and put a few wraps around the joint
keep a nice tight pressure on the tape
this is easy cause of the backwards roll trick from above
cut the tape by pulling it taunt till it snaps
rub the loose end and this will seal it to the wrap

Hope this is a helpful post

I've used teflon tape before for sealing but never wrapping it again as the final stage. Will this hold under pressure?

Sounds like it should work if there's no back pressure in the system.
