IS THIS A GOOD DESIGN

Hi folks,
Have been reading around this forum as a newby with a Smartstill and have decided to build a column to go on my "Burco" boiler. I fancy the offset head design and have seen the attached picture which seems to be a great way of returning any condensed product into the centre of the packed column to aid the reflux action (not running down sides of tube). Has anyone any experience of this design and are there any flaws? Also would the inclusion of a valve in the horizontal half inch pipe turn the column into an almost pot still if closed (i.e all condensed product straight out off take off valve.

The picture is tiny and difficult to see whats going on. If you are going for a neutral, in my opinion a VM column would be the easiest to build. Or you could do a bok. Or combo of both. I have one I'll sell you for less than I have in the parts if you would like it.

Maybe try to attach a bigger picture.

wirdip, the offset head Liquid Management design does work but is a pricier and more complex build than the simple Bokakob dual slant plate design which is equal in performance... For an inexpensive and versatile Liquid Management performer, the dual slant plate is the way to go... Otherwise, for about the same cost as the offset head you have referenced, a Vapor Management design would be a good choice for neutral spirits... And if you're looking for flavored spirits you'll want a pot still...
