This look any good?

Post by The Pope »

Looking at one of these stills on Ebay and would appreciate feedback.
The seller says it is similar to a Boka only it has a single plate and a pipe in the centre for the return.
He does them soldered or tig welded (I am looking at a tigged one) but want to make sure that it is a decent bit of gear. As I would like high quality nuetrals...

@ evil_spirits,

I believe you can build a more traditional Bokakob Dual Slant-Plate Single Column In-line Reflux Still cheaper than the 260 bucks that the eBay Still is being sold for.

Suggest reviewing the Bokakob Dual Slant-Plate Single Column In-line Reflux Still thread->

I tried previously and stuffed it...Twice lol.
I think if I can't find anything for sale soon I might try and build an old valved reflux.
They look to be alot easier for me to build with simple fittings like T pieces etc. I will see how I go anyway...

The ebay seller says he can do a "traditional" boka (I assume that is a dual slant plate) or a double reducer boka for the same price. I think I'd look hard at those options since they are proven designs. His design might be just as good but I can't tell based on the ebay listing alone.

When I built my valved reflux aka VM still I had very little practice with soldering. I found it easy although it took me 3 tries to get the double coil right as I tried to do it without salt. Now even the coils are easier for me just take practice and patience.

It looks like a pretty good rig to me. It's a bit different way of getting there but the construction is good and it will do the job.

Be sure to get a furrel on it.

I'd build a dual reducer column like the one in my signature... I'm not into the offset part of the offset columns... I could be very content with a larger diameter version of the dual reducer design...
