Is it just me or does everybodys alcometer face the wrong way when trying to read it!?. Drives me nuts! Lol.

yep, great aint they,

they are also suicidal pyshos, if they get left alone on a workbench without a straight-jacket they can be relied upon to leap off or under something

You obviously have a North American alcometer. Meant for North of the equator.

I just happen to have a "South of the Equator" alcometer, we should trade.

I broke 5 in one month once....
now it is either in the alcohol, or in my hand, it does not get left alone, and when storing it, it goes into its padded box...

record so far is 3 months on 1 alcoholmeter.....

Mine always faces away from me as though hiding the truth from me... No matter where I sit it, it faces away from me... Came up with an idea to position one or two pieces of mirror glass behind it but haven't made the device yet... That's how consistently the phenomenon happens...

I have enough trouble reading it without my glasses, can't imagine reading it backward through a mirror!

hydrometer are very aware of any trickery like mirrors and such. They will immediately turn to the exact point where even the mirror can't quite get it. They should make the top of them triangular

Yes, much in the same way my hydrometer used to turn away from me when I was looking at the % alcohol of my beer. If I could buy a refractometer that measured a high gravity I would buy it, PITA to be sure.

I tried this once and quickly found out bellybuster is right. Damn thing still found a spot I couldn't read. Sure my feeble attempt could be improved. I've become accustomed to the dance so never tried again.

I mounted my rig just a little off level once and the hydrometer slowly spun, making the scale visible about every 20 min and stayed in sync with my jars till the tails. I was too stupid to measure the angle and that's never happened since. And yeah, except for that time the little bastard hides.
