10 foot stick of 2"

Post by jarheadshiner »

Didn't know where this should go but I settled on here. Got a ten foot stick of 2" copper. Have a very efficient stripper/pot in 2 inch so what would you build with it?

I realize it is limited somewhat because of the small diameter but was just trying to get some suggestions. A lot of work, but I plan on soldering short pieces into the end of every elbow and tee and making a beefed up easy flange on all ( 2 90's and one tee). The objective is to make everything modular so I can reuse all elbows and tee's as I see fit in the future with use of a tri-clamp. I have two 15.5 gallon kegs at my disposal (one is my boiler) so what do ya think?

My plans at this point for the ten foot are: (the thumper is from Usge's thumper design)
-20" from keg to keg for thumper
-20" (guesstimate) down tube into thumper
-whatever is left for a VM

I make a pretty good whisky on my pot but would like to have something to make a decent neutral. No boka's please. No disrespect but I plan on flanging every piece of this and do not want non-removable slant plates in the tube.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jar, I own a few 2" SS reflux towers and I always get a good neutral ( up to 195 proof ) . One made with cooper would work great, just a though, with 6" of3" and 3 or 4' of 1/2" you could make a great reflux tower

Thanks BB. Didn't quite understand your measurements though. Really want your input but need a bit of clarification on the dimensions.

Cheers

Hi Jar, if you go on the MileHi site and look at his 2" dual purpose tower you will know what to do and being you have a lot of 2" you can make the PC fatter and shorter ,and that's my thoughts

Jar you can also make shorter sections ( 8/12/18") so you can add and subtract and get a high proof pot unit or high proof reflux unit. Fill them with SS or whatever your choice and away u go

Depending on what I have left I might do that Bert. Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks Bert and everyone else... Oh wait you were the only one who responded. Didn't think it was that stupid of a question but apparently it was. I was kinda putting it up as a poor man's wish list. oh well...

If it were me I know exactly what I'd do.......I'll tell ya tomorrow........ Ha ha, it's early

Any way, I would start with a tall pot still with shotgun condenser. Just straight up to a 180 then straight down to shotgun.
I would then build a small def like the one Brendan did. Borrowed your pic brenden. Hope you don't mind

With some packing in the column this could be used as a pot or reflux just by diverting water flow
the blank spot would be the def.

+1 with BellyBuster. by making it modular as you plan you could leave out the deph and just use as a pot or put it all together for a CM reflux column.

Any type of still could be modular, whether using a Bokakob dual slant plate LM section, a VM take off section, or CM section as discussed... You could have them all and swap control sections in and out as you desire... Nothing like the ultimate convertible still...

You can just leave the deflag in, don't run water to it for pot mode, run water to it for reflux mode. You could also make the deflag section longer, have the coolent tubes in the top and slant plates in the bottom in one clamp in clamp out section for LM. If you read cm's are hard to run here, don't believe it, a one eyed baby with nappy rash could run one. Good luck with our still
