Savannah cats

Post by F6Hawk »

since there is quite a diverse population here, I was wanting to ask if anyone owns or raises Savannah cats, particularly F1's? I am interested in owning one, and wanted input as to their personality and care (other than the stuff I can find online, which is typically from sellers people to buy from them, so everything is "peachy keen" from them).

And as my first retirement nears, I was considering raising them and selling babies, but it sounds like it might be a very risky business. So if anyone out there raises them or has raised them, I would appreciate your insight.

TIA!

Sorry I can't be of more help with firsthand experience, but I've been thinking about getting one. Some states, like NY, have restrictions on people having F1s (or even up to F3s). Good luck in your research. I'm certainly interested in hearing more about this. Thanks. :)

Be prepared to spend between $15,000 to $25,000 for one and check into your local ordinances because they are illegal in some areas due to their size and close relationship to wild cats... And in some areas they have to be in caged enclosures... I'd love to have one but they are out of my price range...

Actually, Rad, female F1s go for up to $35,000. If I were to get one for a pet, I'd prolly settle for an F3 or below, though I am intrigued by the characteristics & size of the F1s.

If I get some to breed, it will be to make money, and therefore the high cost isn't as much of an issue as it would be for buying a pet (well, except the part where it's facking expensive to buy a breeder, and I have to pay it out of pocket). But I would hope to recoup that cost within 2 years, as any good business plan would have us do.

Im into animal husbandry and I have to tip my hat off to anyone that is willing to breed animals of high quality at those kinds of costs. I wouldnt be suprised if a proper habitat could be built for less than the cost of two breeders by the sounds of those estimates.

I hope you succeed in this endeavor. It sounds fulfilling.
