Black specks in moonshine
I'm getting black specs in my final product. My still is 100% stainless steel an copper only sealing with flour paste. I have did a water run. Vinegar run and then a sacrificial alch run. My first keep run had a few black specks in it. Today I ran another batch an had a lot more this time. I filtered them all out with a micron filter but still curious of what this could be?

Possible build residue, but it happens. I use a coffee filter cut down and inserted into a glass funnel going into my parrot.
Then when mixing to proof, filter it again.

What type of wash are you making? I did a run of sugar wash to clean my still(yuck) and then a few runs of wine to figure out what I was doing. Those wine runs never had anything in the distillate, however when I started rum I found black flecks started. I remember reading somewhere on here that you can sometimes get molasses gums(small black flecks) to come over in the run. That might be what your seeing if your doing that style of wash.

The still components aren't clean until they're clean... Quite possibly just the last bits of gunk stuck in there from the building process...

I'm doing the sweet feed recipe. Which has molasses in it. So that could be it. As for the still not being cleaned when I did the water and then the vinegar run I didn't get the black specks. Which makes me think it wasn't the still being dirty.
