Liebig Condensor Size

Post by goldilow »

So, I plan on doing a 2" Column 36" Tall. I can't decide if I want to do a 3/4" with a 1" jacket, or a 1/2" with a 3/4" jacket. Any suggestions?

I've also read that soldering ground wire inside the jacket can help with turbulence. I've been thinking about doing this. Any suggestions or experience with this?

3/4 over 1/2 at about 36 inches length will be fine and easily able to knock down 5500 w heaters on full blast.

Take a piece of copper lumex wire and strip out the un-insulated ground wire. Tack it to the 1/2 inner pipe with a bit of solder then wrap it using about a 45 degree helical angle for the full length of the pipe to be jacketed. Give it a couple tacks down the length with solder to keep it tight to the pipe and not vibrate when in service.

The added water and copper weight of 1" over 3/4" is not beneficial enough to use instead of the lighter 3/4" over 1/2"... Add the spiral turbulator wire around the 1/2", and perhaps a spiral copper turbulator strip inside the 1/2", and you'll be good to go...

I'd chose the 3/4" with a 1" jacket.

I used 1"over 1/2" with a turbulator wire wrapped around the 1/2" . Been happy with the way it performs .

I am currently using 3/4 over 1/2. Works perfectly for me.

1" over 3/4" can be 25% shorter than 3/4 over 1/2. otherwise there is no much difference. 1" over 1/2 is not a good choice since it less effective than 3/4 over 1/2.

I just got a 1" over 1/2" guess I should take it apart to add the wire around the 1/2" from all I'm reading

Don't fix what ain't broke . If it's knocking down what you throw at it keep on stillin . If it's causing problems ; then , well yea , fix it . If there was a perfect way all of us would be doing it all the same :)

if using 3/4 over 1/2 liebig... what guage of wire would be ideal for a turbulator in the water jacket?
Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough

I used the ground wire from the inside of a piece of household romex.
