Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Tried that "Fighting Cock" once. I'd probably take a throat punch over a second go...at least that wont leave a foul taste in my mouth.

get what you pay for! I think home distillers get spoiled when it comes to quality. small batch is soooo much different than the high volume commercial slag

We have a cheap "bourbon" here. $11.90 for 1L. Although I'd rather lick the sweaty ass crack of a homeless man then drink it again.

:D :D :D  +1. Actually reminds me of a St. Patricks party I attended at Mash Rookie's. As you know he was a well known glassblower. He made his girl friend drink from a glass he made and the stem of the glass was in the form of a penis. I won best dressed thus won two martini glasses made by him with a shamrock built into the stem.

Not bourbon but I had a very pleasant surprise with a Canadian whisky recently. Forty Creek barrel select, same price as the rest of the swill yet surprisingly good. Very little detectable heads, all round nice whisky

I remember having a drink with my wife's cousin from Norway. I took a sip and made the comment "this tastes like shit" his response to me was "how would you know". Enough said!

i think if could still buy any kind of likker for under 20 bucks i would not be (the novice) stiller i am. the cheapest undrinkable shit in a store around here is like 26 bux. that 4 roses swill is mid-forties. a 355mL can of bud lite is over 2 bucks, ($28/12) unless you buy in bulk... like 36 cans for 57 dollars.
i was in a Montana truckstop few months ago and a dozen water was 14.99, and a 30 pack of bud lite was 16.00. that don't happen around here.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

His description of Jim Beam Black is dead off. I bought a bottle on sale for under 20 bucks thinking what the hell lets try 8yr old Beam. Piss. Heads bite. Shite flavor. Horrible. Its not even good in coke. Make bad cuts and 8 years wont even save your ass.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

I get that when I say something tastes like ass. Haha. When they ask how I now, stumps them when I say, I've tasted ass before. Haha. Gets em every time. Lol

Agreed!
I like what I make and I think its pretty damn good. I've been told my oaked whiskeys rival or better some high-dollar small batch stuff. My employers (who are very wealthy) drink some pretty high-end liquor, and after I gave them some of my 2-year+ aged sour mash and 1-year aged apple brandy, they told me it was some of the best they had tried. And they're not the type to "be nice" if they thought it sucked. Felt like a win!

It's not bourbon, but Wiser's Deluxe 10 year old Canadian is pretty good at $15-20usd.

had some of the worst burbon ive ever tasted lastnight.

Post by WooTeck »

my friend just opened a bar and was showing off his 'specialist expensive bourbons' . he had Hudson bourbon and rye. god damn they were some rough cut rot gut. still because I dropped some coin on them it was able to finish.

then I had tin cup. it was like drinking a glass of my heads only worse. the bar man added some bitters to try make it drinkable all that happened was the burn left but it still tasted like shit.

this was after id been sipping some van winkle 12yo in my local. was quite impressed.

My son lives on Long Island, and he brought some of the Hudson Rye home over the holidays. Lord have mercy that is the nastiest crap I've ever drank. And I was trying my best to be polite and say "thanks son for getting this for me", but great day it was rough. And that really is considered high end in New York. They're, like, proud of that shit.

I've been to Tuthilltown distllery (Hudson Valley) a few times. And sampled most of their stuff. I didn't care for their Rye either...it was sharp and headsy. I think they do a nice job with their white corn whiskey. I've had bourbon expressions from them that I thought were quite good...the baby bourbon...others ...not so much. And the quality of it has varied quite a bit over time as they started as a farmhouse with a 5 gal pot...and are continually growing. It is all pricey though!

I have tried the old grand dad 117 and the four roses. Better than some priced twice as much.

Tax here is about $76 a litre for alcohol, that is to say its worked out at a rate of 76 bucks per 100% ABV so factions of but you get the picture, there is nothing under $20 nor has there been for a damn long time and very rarely under $30 (under $40 is getting uncommon). Anything that is under $30 here is of the very worst quality you can possibly imagine. I bought some stuff called bonded something a rather and it made me dry reach, I think it was only faints and the hearts were sold as something else. We get woodstock here and it is true rubbish and alot of American whiskey sold under names most of you guys wont now as its just cheap arsed crap bought and resold from some of the US's bulk mega distilleries. it is very hard to find a bourbon you can sip without a mixer for under 50 to 60 bucks (eg: JD is normally mid to high forties). They haven't imported Old Granddad here for years but i put in an order every time friend or family go stateside as there is something about it i like (besides or in spite of the prevalent heads
