Dried Cranberries Ideas

Post by eVenom »

i just came across some very cheap dried cranberries.

I want to see if you guys have any idea on how to use them

I currently have 5 pounds of thie stuff

I have mixed some 1L of white lightning with 250g of the cranberries and it comes out delicious!

But i want to try it some other ways

Making a wash from it seems like a waste unless omeone have done it with good results. But in my experience the flavor doesn't come through to the distillate enough for it to be worth it unles i had tonnes of the stuff

Cranberries are (supposedly) good for your urinary tract....they always make me have to pee. So, cranberry booze sounds like just "the ticket".

I guess cranberries have been a staple in the Cosmopolitan for ages. Vodka and cranberry juice with a touch of lime juice...shake over ice and pour into a martini glass...garnish with an orange zest.

I made one from dried cranberries and ocean spray brand cranberry juice concentrate. The concentrate had added sugar that watered(alcoholed?)down the cranberry taste some but it got OK. I got six pounds of dried I'm saving up for another try.

Use in a Mead. Makes a nice variation that will age well. Sharp and biti g when young and mellow when aged.

I made a cranberry orange drink not long ago that was superb.

I mascerated cranberries and orange zest for a week, then I removed the cranberries and cooked them down in a little water and brownsugar. Then I strained and squeezed that back into the jar. Then filtered it as best as I could and let it set another week.

Tasted like Boones Farm but at 70 proof.

Great idea guys!

Replacing cranberries for the raisins in baking is one of the things i do al the time because i really like the tartness that it gives

RumDummyDrunk yes let me know how that mash turnes out

Last year i made 30gallons of blueberrie wine and didnt like it so i saves 1gallon and ran the rest got quite a bit of brandy but i really didnt like the flavor too much either. Now its been sitting a year and i tried it and the flavor is awesome for thw wine and the brandy. i know its not related but it came to mind. Sometimes it just needs time i wish now that i would have saved more of it

Macerating the cranberries with orange zest sounds great! Ill try that! Ill probably wont add brownsugar to it because to me it masks the flavors too much but orange cranberry it going to be my next batch! What type of orange did u use? And how much? sometimes orange can be overwhelming

I added very little brown sugar.
Maybe a 1/8 cup or less for a pint....
The cranberries can be slightly bitter, the sugar helps.
Course I was shooting for something on the sweet side.

Just zested two navel oranges then squeezed two of the remaining wedges into the pint. It could have used less orange flavor IMO.

The mash is bubbling away like crazy. So far so good I would say. I like the idea of oranges, gonna throw some in thumpers when run it.

I'd be thinking of making a gin myself.
Getting back into stilling after a few years off.

If memory serves me correctly, cranberries do not ferment well due to acidity and antioxidant properties... In short, yeast don't like cranberries... Just going from memory though... Not to mention what cranberry juice does to yeast infections... :ewink:

Nasty.... Not recommended for human consumption provided you have taste buds. Taste like bad tasting cough medicine.
