No, I will find the link to that. I'm looking for simplicity and good results.
Doing my own research I found one that used 3 lbs of grain per 1 gallon of water, so I times it by 5 and did 15 lbs of grain and 5 gallons of water. Basically steeped the grains for 1.5 hours and then sparged before cooling and adding yeast.
I have two batches going, one with 10 lbs and one with 15 lbs...both are bubbling away nicely with 1 pack of ale yeast.
I see some people do "partial mash" too with added malt. I've made beer many times but this is my 2nd time making whiskey.

Was the grain malted or are you expecting that steeping was going to miraculously convert starches to fermentable sugars...??? I'm guessing that you need to do some serious research before proceeding... Well, more than guessing...HappyHighwayman wrote:No, I will find the link to that. Yes malted grains and then I crushed them myself at the brew store.

I found the recipe
http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 14&t=48654
It's quite similar to what I did but I will adjust it for future cooks
