Open talk, brandy/whisky still rig brainstorming

Post by Maxime »

Hello gentlemens,

I have the problem of allways wanting to improve my equipement.
Long story short, I'm mainly making brandy, grappa and planning on doing some whisky one day (so no neutral alcohol).

I'm currently using a 65L brewzilla (220v, 3500w)

With a condenser lid (4in triclamp ferrule)

I have just recently bough a 4 to 2'' copper arm

I'm now looking for an onion head, I think this one is pretty but I'm not sure if it is worth it and if it would improve the flavor what's so ever

I'm also wondering if I should add 2 bubble plates, I can't find much info but I think this will allow me to avoid having to do a stripping run.
Do I risk losing a lot of flavor, or is it comparable to a common potstill ?

I do have a gin basket that I would like to try one day in the near future, so I guess that the bubble plates would also become handy in that regard?

Also, a fantasy of mine is to have a shogun condenser like this one :

With a parrot mounted directly on it, is would be easier/more compact than having to use my counterflow chiller

What are your advices/thoughts on my intentions?

Best regards,
Max.
