Ben gave me one of his original Badmo barrels years ago when he was still working out of his garage. I never made anything I thought worthy of filling it with (even though I could make a decent simple sour mash).

Finally years later, I filled my first Badmo with my first all-grain bourbon: a corn, wheat, and rye grain bill.

Ben was an incredibly generous person, always willing to help, or give what he could. I wish I had more time to get to know him better. His family and friends didn't deserve to loose such a man that soon.

Anyway, I just wanted to say, thank you Ben I appreciate the barrel, it's been put to good use.

Wow, that is an old barrel. My oldest barrel is #238. Its been sitting, full of a 21% rye bourbon for 3 years now. I've been really stingy taking the occasional dram for tasting every few months since it turned 2, so it's barely had any removed.
It's likely to just sit there and age for another year before I pull enough to fill a pint bottle.

I've got #484 with a 4 grain bourbon - about 32 months now. I've probably taken about a liter over that time.

In November I noticed a split in the SS bain marie, on the rim right at the top. I know it wasn't there in September, and I didn't lose too much to the Angels, so I transferred the bourbon to glass.

I popped the head out of the can and cut it down to fit a 6 qt bain marie, making a new 5 qt barrel with the same head. You may notice that the head is recessed more than usual - but it doesn't leak. I transferred the 4 grain bourbon into this and it was full to the top.

The end of May through the end of August is going to be pretty busy for us traveling between Idaho, Nevada, Washington, Montana, and Oregon. Visiting family, spreading mom's ashes, camping trips, and RV rallies, We've got a pretty packed summer this year.

As someone who is super stoked to try badmos- I always wish I would have gotten into this hobby earlier. Solid dudes deserve to get remembered and Ben will be for a long time

I’ve got one coming for HBB and one ex rum cask to make a scotch for my lady. Cant wait to try them out
