SCackalacky, You hit the nail on the head, I have read and consider myself a pretty smart person, even though I look like a jackass @ The moment and I have read up on enzymes, Malted Barley, Amylase, but when you add one thing I see it can throw something else out. I promise to stay to tried and true recipes, til I get them down pat with th whole process. I started a book to write down every ferment. Will take the time to learn all!!! Thank you, not easy putting yourself out there to be chewed by people, but I love this forum and this hobby. The guy that sold me a tradional potstill w/ thumper, Told me mashing and fermenting was the hard part.

Has anyone ever tried the blue seal wildlife feed, it is corn, rolled oats, rolled barley, molasses, and natural cherry flavoring. It's the cherry flavoring that has me hesitant. Not sure if it will make a delicious cherry whiskey or some terribled cherry smelling racing fuel

For 9$ per 40lb sack I may just try it next week when I get to the grain store but figured I'd put the feelers out there first

I doubt that there would be enough cherry flavor to make a difference once distilled... If the mix was that loaded with cherry flavoring they'd either have to jack up the price or reduce the proportion of another ingredient to maintain profit margin...

Well, its complicated. We tie cats to our feet and then scoot around the house to build enough static...then its simply using enough tin-foil to get a signal from the local trading post. They bring the sweetfeed in, one bag a time, on Donkeys if you can get it just right. :P

I did google this Tractor Supply you speak of and low and behold we got two of them! (our local Coastal Farm Supply is apparently owned by them now). When I first started I got a bag of cob from there but it had pellets. it was all they had. So, i drove my mule cart to the outskirts of town and found this Beaver Feed - great stuff. I like supporting the little guys anyhow.

Cheers and happy brewing! It sure do make a good sip after two years on oak!

Man, Im really sorry to hear that. that is never fun. No worries. No offense taken.

I have an older brother - and a younger one so Im pretty good at taking and handing it out. Im not sure, I've tried a few different brands and it is my favorite by far. they make a pretty good cracked corn as well (seems pretty clean and consistent). It might me an Oregon thing - being Beaver Country and all...but they still let Ducks buy it. Deer love it too  Ha.

I made my first sweet feed run awhile back on Producers Pride 12% sweet feed, the kind with pellets, because I did'nt know any better. At the time I knew that the pellets did not help it any, but I thought it was drinkable, and not that bad, (not that good either). Two days ago I came across one last jar of that run sitting on the shelf. I needed more empty jars so I opened it to dump it, but smelled it first. It smelled pretty bad so being a genius I naturally tasted it. Either I am getting better at making hooch, or age did not help this stuff, or it was worse than I thought it was to begin with. Nasty, not sickening, but just bad. It got dumped.

The Producers Pride sweet feed has all sorts of things you do not want in your mash including animal by products. The Producers Pride All Grain is what you are looking for. It does not say anything about being a sweet feed. It says All Grain on the Sack and is Corn, Oats, Barley and Molasses. If it says sweet feed, no matter what % or all stock on the bag you do not want it. The good stuff costs over $15.00 per 50lb bag and the other is around $10.00 per bag. Here is the item number SKU 5021132 and here is the link to the site http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/p ... feed-50-lb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
Hope this helps. :)

The last order I placed here the manager told me that it was changing and only select stores will be carrying it. He did say I could special order and he would get it in.

I don't buy sweetfeed anymore, I buy different grains and molasses and mix my own. This was just one jar of that one failed run I had left.

I only had the one jar left that I came across and would not have been worth any effort to have rerun this swill anyway. I have been making UJSSM and some sweetfeed since then that "IS" worth keeping and rerunning

The new style bags that I posted with the new Sku are 11.49. The purple bags are the ones you no longer want as all of them here that I seen have pellets. So when you do see and find them . Stock up as they change manufactures often. My Tractor Supply is an hour ride. If I am in the area or passing through I buy a bag if I needed of not. Special orders here are by the pallet. That's just policy with Tractor Supply. So I don't know how some are just getting a bag or two .

Ok I admit I'm new to this forum but I've heard about this sweet feed recipe for years. I think I've made a mistake already. I'm mashing 50 gal of manna pro sweet feed 10. I've just saw where people are staying away from the pellets. Should I run it or dump it. Any advice would be helpful. Has anyone run it?

If you haven't read it or figured it out but those pellets have binders in them, which are generally animal fats and other nasty stuff. All stuff you do not want in your wash.

I made the mistake of buying the wrong/Pelletized stuff too, but I didn't mix it in my wash. I did a quick test by boiling a cup full. Then put it in the freezer. After about an hour there was a nice thick cap of fat/grease on the top. So I fed it to the birds.
