Need Some Help

Post by owally1 »

HI John here from Branson MO, but really born and rasied in NY. Just Finished a Pot Still looking to make Rum to start any help with a simple but good recipe would be most helpful. Make my still from a 15 Gal Keg and 2" copper, looks real good I have two electic heaters in it and I did run a plain water run a few times and it seems run well. Also just wanted to say hi to all.

Welcome john. I would do a simple sugar wash in it first there are plenty of good easy recipies in the tried and true section and they are a good cheep way to get practice runing a still and learning how to do propper cuts. Just don't drink your first run because it will still have some bad stuff comming off the copper.

Pumpman is right. Before you start making rum learn how your still works and at the same time it cleans out any nasty residue. Rum isn't difficultb, but getting accustomed to your new still is important and the best way to do this is with a couple of sugar runs. There are quite a few rum recipes in this forum for you to look at later.

Welcome to the forum and Hi.

It's easy for folks to learn just enough to make dangerous rot-gut but much more difficult to make spirits worth drinking... Safety is a big factor in the learning process... It takes time but you can get there...

Good luck...

Kind of like painting.
Any one can do it. But not many do it well.

Pot stilling for example has a paradoxical kind of "it's easy" but "it's difficult" characteristic.

It seems easy and then,,,,,,,,you were wrong.
