What is it???

Post by ibfestus »

I made it, it is very good but what is it? I stripped all my Gerber Barley wash and then ran it 2X real slow with lots of scrubbers. I cut it to an ABV of 45 and put it in pint jars with about 1/2 cup of medium oak chips in each. It has been 2 weeks now and it has turned a very pleasing amber color, and smells/tastes great! I am absolutely amazed at how good it is and cannot imagine how what it will be like in 6 months. Problem is I don't know what to call it. Can I call it whiskey? If not, then what?

Anyway I have another 12 gallons of Gerber almost ready to strip. :D

What you have there isn't officially a whiskey by legal definition, but it's whatever you want to call it for personal consumption... If it tastes like whiskey, call it whiskey... If it tastes like scotch, call it scotch... If you want to call it flavored sugarhead, call it that... What you have, more or less, is flavored neutral spirit... It has been oaked, but not aged...
