Hello from reb1251

Post by reb1251 »

I have been reading from this site for the last six months. Who am I ? Just a cabinet maker form the deep south USA. Skill level loooow. I started out by making beer, then wine for the female (works too!)...hot tube helps. I begin distilling sugar washes and progressing from there. I 've been playing around with the still and wanted to upload photos...going to give it a try...do not really know how on this site but going to try anyway :roll

Thanks for the reply. Very lonely hobby :)
I have a 2" column 4' high, no packing in the post, but will try it. I have to get the column temp. over 200 F to get things started. 4 Gal. mash in 5 Gal. still. Collected two quarts in 2 1/2 hr. top proof 160 lowest 140 then it just fell quickly to 30% so I quit. I have too keep the heat really low on the burner. Start to finish 2 1/2 hrs. add 1/2 hr. clean up. It tastes clean too me. Left overs in the keg are around 30% and will add back to the next run. The wooden barrel was 1/3 full to start and 2/3 full at finish. nothing much (maybe 1/4 cup) in the water still, just used the air cooling system and it was just keeping up. I will keep playing around that is part of the fun too me. Thanks for the reply...all my friends get strange when trying to discuss this topic. I have a coil of 3/8 copper and a 5 gal. bucket for cooling and will also try that. It is a standard sugar wash, one 25 pound sugar between two 6 gal. plastic buckets. 5 teaspoons of liguor quick yeast nutrient per 6 gal. 2 pk. red star champ. yeast, (blue package). Thanks for the replies.
