bad taste in neutral..... bad cork gasket?

Hello all!

I have completed my first few runs using my new bok that I built. The runs themselves went great, no leaks, no issues, bok ran great. I collected all of the neutral in seperate jars, each about 300ml. It proofed at 192! i was pretty happy with that. after letting the neutral sit for a day I went to cut it with distilled water. this is when it went downhill fast.... a smell became apparent after cutting it down to 40% and it tasted horid. It had a faint hint of apple to it and the smell made me sick to my stomach. After looking and my still and trying to figure out what the hell was going on I found that the cork gasket that I was using had a HORID stench. The same stench that was making me sick. Come to find out the cork that I had purchased with a friend was not natural cork........ thats what i get for not buying it myself. My question after that speal is.... can i re-distill this and pull out the bad elements of it? I have no plans on getting sick anytime soon so if its gotta go......... its gonna start one hell of a fire. LOL

I whould not try to redistill-- had telling what it was and what temperature it will come over at.
what I'm saying is if vaporizes at or about the same temperature as alcohol it will be very hard to remove.

(just not worth it)

Not worth the risk... Write it off as a lesson learned... There's a good reason why we say to use pure cork and to stay away from composition cork sheeting like gasket material... You simply have no clue what the manufacturer used as a bonding agent...

It'll make great alcohol stove fuel and will kill ants real good...

completely agree. i switched to just using a flour seal and it seemed to work well. I will see if the taste is still there when I cut it down to 40%
