i am just starting out with a new reflux still. it is heated with a 1500 watt immerson heater plugged into a 120 volt wall socket. i cant seem to keep the tempeture high enough when i add in the cold water in to the bottom of the reflux. is it because my heater is too low wattage.

sounds like you have a CM and the old stile at that. if so disregard the bottom tube. even better remove it and place in the top with the other one.
or better change it to something else.
