My first mash... And all bran was the choice

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.

My first mash... And all bran was the choice

Post by Od1tspyd3r »

Well after many months of reading and tinkering ps is built tested and cleaned, worm also. Finally decided to take the next step and start my first mash. All bran is the choice. It's cooling now getting ready to pitch the yeasties, then the waiting game for the next few days.( gonna be ruff ).

Would also like to say thanks to all of you hd posters and mods the wealth of knowledge found here is amazing. So thanks and wish me luck ..

All bran kicks ass. Good starter recipie. Great taste. I dont even invert the sugar anymore, still comes out just as good. Good luck and have fun.

No inversion? Serious that would make it that much better

I have read a bunch of threads that are both pro and con on inverting sugar, if the yeast are eating the sugar it seems the outcome is the same in the end. Not producing anymore or less alcohol? The only thing I can see is ferment time may or may not be shortened. I have used both methods and never noticed any difference to be honest.

Day three of ferment, and since I forgot to take an SG after pitching yeast, deceived to crack the lid and take one..... 1.040 on day 3, so things are looking good from my noob standpoint. After second cleaning run now need to make a ptfe everlasting gasket to stop the leaks and one more test run before the wash finishes.

Not sure what you are asking for? I was asking your opinion on inverting vs non inverting a wash. As for reference - try the search function at the top of the page and use the word inverting. There are multipile threads on the site that make good points for both inverting and then those who say its a waste of time.

I was asking if there was a specific article that you found compelling, that leaned towards one method or the other. Btw I am very familiar with the search function.. But thank you.

So day 8 of the was and the SG is down to 1.0 and bubbling once bout every 6 - 8 seconds. Light vinegar taste but other than that smells good and taste is decent. So i guess I'll let it sit another couple days and then run it. Any objections???

well this post is a little late but, i ran 2 gals of the wash and got an output of 1350 ml ( dumping fores of course). here is a rough breakout of the output started @ 110, 1st 300ml, 2nd 100 (200ml), 3rd 80(200ml), 4th 75(200ml), saved 5 and 6 for later. and b4 everyone gets me, im still a noob and working on my cuts. I have read teh section on cuts but still learing so any pointers for a noob would be great.
