my phase angle controller

Post by NCDS2000 »

i built the phase controller as per instructions in new distillers lounge and made mine just like mulekickers with the amp meter. My amp meter is 30 amps but it goes past the that mark after turning up the unit 3/4 of the way. i am assuming i need a higher rated meter maybe 50 amp? or did i do something wrong

the unit worked great on my last run very quiet stayed cool the whole run a have a cpu fan blowing across the heat sink

Do you have part numbers or pictures...??? You shouldn't need a larger SSR than you have because even a 5500W element only draws a maximum ~23 amps... Either a 25 or 40 should work fine...

i ordered the exact one from the listing in the new distillers area Newark Part Number: 97K7822 but i will double check when i get home and post a pic of what it looks like inside. i wonder if the amp meter gauge is defective. the controller worked great when i used it so much faster then when i ran the 5500 watt element on 120 volts. i am pretty handy with electronics plus i thought that if i build the unit to spec it would work as designed which it does except the metter needle goes past 30 amps

Do you have a clampon ammeter that you can use to verify what the current actually is?

Or run it on another known power of resistive element to compare eg a kettle.
