hello all, I produced a birdwatchers recipe that I think came through pretty well, came out around 160 proof, ran it though my pot still 3 times, but everyone whose tried it says that it has a nutty flavor like crushed almonds, ive examined my recipe and I think I know how to get rid of it, but I thought id run it past the experts,
my three things im gonna change for this next run is...
A.) use distillers yeast instead of Fleischmann's,
B.) change from b complex vitamin pills to yeast nutrient for nutrient source
C.) change from homemade charcoal to decolorizing carbon for filter
if anyone has had this issued and resolved it, let me know
how to get rid of "nutty" flavour from nuetral spirits

I only ran my Birdwatchers once and it came out with 120 proof of hearts with no off or nut taste, i used Dap but I never did a carbon filter on it, just air it out for a day or so.
I might not change the World, But I'm gonna leave one helluva Scar.... Blackberry Smoke

If your after a neutral spirit, then you need to run the wash through a reflux still. This should get rid of your nutty flavor.

"home made charcoal" bet that's your culprit
3 runs through a pot still should give you a fairly neutral drink.

We really need a bit more detail to be of much more assistance...
Did you dilute the spirits to 40% ABV or under for each boiler charge...??? Water is the best filter so diluting will do more for you than dicking around with carbon filtering...
A reflux column can produce ~95% ABV in a single pass so that would be a better option... And done properly would not require carbon filtering...
Charcoal is not the same as activated carbon for filtering... But you shouldn't need to filter...
Use the right tools and methods for the job and the job will be done right the first time...![Idea ](./images/smilies/icon_idea.gif)
