I used to be a social drinker in that I only drank in bars, almost every night, and never drank at home or even kept booze in the house... Now I usually have a drink or three almost every night here at home and never frequent the bars... Drinking has never been at the top of my priority list...

Drink more than I used too but usually no more than one glass per night, sometimes none, sometimes more.

Bushman how big is your likkkker glass? Mine is 32 oz. My doc says 1 to 2 drinks a day max so I had to get a bigger glass. Now I drink less than he says. However I might have 1 or 2 drinks a week, sometimes more some times less (not my 32oz likkker glass). I drink more beer in summer and likker in winter.

Fritz, no one wants to openly admit to being an alcoholic except for those that recognize the fact and openly admit it because of AA or other council. Most that would otherwise would do so in a jokingly manner which is hard to detect in the written word. Unless, of course, your definition of alcoholism is having more than a few drinks each week then probably most on here would fall into that category at some time or another-no necessary negative connotations in that declaration. Perhaps a better question would be how much does the normal member of this forum drink? My answer to that would be as little as i like and no more than i want! Maybe 4 a week, with company for a fishing weekend maybe 14.

I have to admit that almost every night when I go to bed I could not pass a breathalyzer for driving. But at the same time I'm not driving, just chilling out here at the house with my wife. I seem to be a happy drunk. I don't drink when when I work, 5 or 6 days a week but quitting time and weekends I like to get a little loose. Do any of y'all think I have a problem? (not being a smarty here!)

I think if it affects your life in any way it's to much, causes arguments, health issues, mental issues ect. No one can tell you how.much to drink, it's up to how it affects you and the people around you. I used to drink way to much, made me lazy, sick, and just generally unhappy. I feel.alot better now.

Just have beer/ spirits every other weekend.
Have a 10 week break after Christmas each year.
Really careful not to let it get in the way of my other interests.
I have also found I get layed more if I don't drink too much.

I'll admit i used to be back in the 80's in the military and overseas. i quit drinkin for quite a few years, then i started just drinkin socially after my first marriage ended. now , i still dont drink a lot but i might have 2 or 3 drinks a night 3 or 4 times a week. ohh and rocks glasses ( none of them "big gulps" cups for me )

I have at least 1 drink every night. Sometimes 2-3. Might be a bottle of homebrew beer, Whisky or Rum and soda or water, or last night I had 2 glasses of home made wine mixed with 7-up.
I feel good in the morning, never miss or am late for work, and take care of all my home and family responsibilities before I go to bed.
I would have a hard time sleeping without a drink at night, But I started having a drink before bed because I couldn's sleep. I would rather have a drink than take pills to relax. Tastes better.

That's an interesting label. Not sure how relevant it is.

I regularly speed when driving, does that make me a criminal? I spend money going to purely amusing pursuits, does that make me a spend thrift? I like to wear old cloths, does that make me a vagabond? I like sex in more than one position, does that make me a pervert?

I drink of what I make when I want, as much as I like at the time I want, does that make me an alcoholic?

I suggest you might be trying to ascertain, how many of us have a problem in our lives caused by alcohol? The better questions might be: Do we drink so much it affects our health? Do we drink because we 'have' to have it or because we 'like' to have it? Do we drink so much that we are an embarrassment to ourselves and our families?

I suggest, the answers are more than likely be no more or no less than similar percentages of other demographics - if a scientific survey were to be accomplished (including those people who claim to not drink at all!).

does it make me an alcoholic cause I'm addicted to making it? I actually enjoy the process of making it, more than I enjoy the process of drinking it. But, I wont lie, I do enjoy a sip or two on the weekend or vacation and maybe after a rough day on the job.

Cooked for and hosted a dinner for 20 people this evening . Spent all yesterday prepping and finished precooking the food at 2AM this morning . Slow smoked beef and pork and ranch beans were my part of the deal . Others brought the sides . I also provided the hooch . Smashing success . They all left well fed and happy with a fine evening .
Also had 3 quarts of my hooch in their bellies . I sipped beer the entire evening while performing host duties . Fine outcome all way round and now I can relax with a couple drinks of my own in private .

I think four or five drinks a day qualifies as an alcoholic. I may be a very highly functional alcoholic but alcoholic none the less.
