Using compression fitting to pass through
I am using a keg pot still, thumper, worm. the lid for the keg/boiler is an inverted stainless bowl (as well as the lI'd for the thumper pot). I have copper tubing running from the bowl to the thumper, and on to the condenser. The tubing is currently brazed to the bowls with a high silver alloy. Kinda ugly. I was wondering how to attach the piping to the bowls with compression fittings, to clean it up.

One end of the fitting should have a thread on it. Find a nut that fits and screw it into the bowl.

Don't know what size you need but a compression bulkhead fitting sounds like what you are describing, sir.

At the risk of sounding like a total baffoon...does anyone know the part names or even numbers from somewhere like grainger?
Re: Using compression fitting to pass through
Depends on what size tubing you want to use.
Distilling at 110f and 75 torr.

Re: Using compression fitting to pass through
Caution...1/2" OD is the minimum recommended diameter for vapor. If you're planning to use 3/8" ID, you run the risk of chocking the flow and causing backpressure build up in the boiler. Plus, if your wash "pukes" it could plug a 3/8" ID or smaller tube, again creating the potential for a bomb!
Now, if using 1/2" ID (5/8" OD) you're OK. But don't be shocked by the price of the brass bulkhead compression fittings.
ss
PS - they also make flared bulhead fitting too. You'd need a flare tool to make the joint however.

You won't need a flaring tool when using compression fittings.

Prolly easiest to print a hard copy of that picture that FMH posted, walk it into the hardware store, and let them point you to the part.
EDIT: or you could show them on your phone, of course. Printers are so 20th Century.

Perhaps you should do a bit more research into all available fittings so you can make your own decisions... You have plenty of options... Wander the plumbing section of big box or specialty stores and become familiar... Knowledge is power...Needitcheaper wrote:I am using the 5/8 od tubing. And I have no flare tool...or clue what that is
