Going to have to hang it up for a while

Post by Skipper1953 »

I'm going to be putting away all my stillin' specific hardware and may have to dump a bunch of aging liquor that I have really enjoyed producing over the years. I have an adult son whose life is spiraling out of control. Wifey and I have been trying like hell to help him help himself for the past year but he is starting to view our current tough love approach as trying to control him rather than help him. He has threatened to turn me in to the local authorities as a means of getting me/us to back off. His mental state is such that I have plenty of reason to be seriously concerned about his threats.

It wasn't that long ago that he shared a non-participating interest in what I was doing because he has/had the same process geek gene that I have. I had no reason not to share my enthusiasm for this hobby with my only son.

I'll be enjoying this wonderfully fascinating hobby vicariously for the foreseeable future. Most of the time, reading these forums is pretty relaxing. There is no way I'm giving that up.

I have to keep telling myself that, "This too shall pass."

Thanks.

Sorry for your dilemma. Yes, it will pass and life will go on. It's ironic how each of us has their own catastrophic events going on at various times in our lives. I too am dealing with a life changing event and sympathies with your situation. Best wishes and prayers to you my friend.

I feel for you. I have a so that is a heroin addict. I havent seen but one time in over 2 years. A word of advice if I may. As bad as it sounds I have given up. Don't destroy yourself trying to save someone who does not want saved. And turning you in is a possibility but stealing your stash ( if he is on dope) is far more likely. He can sell that for dope money. I wish you luck.

That's tough to hear, Skipper, I guess life can come at you from strange and unexpected directions sometimes.

I agree with Panman, take care of yourself and the missus first, that way you can still be there for him if he gets his shit straightened out and need your help later.

Stick around, you don't need to be stillin' actively to chat.

Been in a similar situation with a self righteous daughter .
Lower animals have the ability to walk away from their offspring when it's time for them to be weaned .
We , as human parents , have a difficulty with that . It leads us to grief on many occasions .
Tough love is a hard row to hoe . Only way you got a chance to make a crop is to hoe that row .
Stay strong and in touch with us . We will be your support group .

Panman1965,
Drugs are not an issue.

Truckinbutch,
I may now understand why some "lower animals" eat their young. Regarding hard rows, my wife and have had more than our share of practice during the course of our 47 years together. We like to think we've produced some pretty decent crops.

Every one,
Thanks again.

Skipper, I wish you luck getting your son back on track. It is a shame he is trying to hurt you while you are trying to help him out. Maybe he does not want to get back on his feet. You can't help someone who does not want help.

Please keep us updated on your progress and his. Wish you all the best of luck and best outcome possible.
Lord, give me patience, but give it to me NOW!

Best of luck. Bury the good stuff in the back yard. It'll be that much better when you retrieve it....
