Wish list

Post by Bushman »

I am looking for ideas to put on my Christmas list as our family makes up lists of items they would like to receive. So what are members hoping to add this year to their list?

Hpby98 turned me on to a whipping siphon to make whipped cream out of homemade Bailey's Irish Cream.
You charge it with little nitrous bottles.

Hi Bushman

Mines quite basic compared to fizzix's fancy machine and if you already have one of those I'm sure you've got these

1, Electric grain mill
2, Wort chiller
3, stainless steel containers 2x30 litres and 1x50 litre

I'll have to buy my own the SOH has offered to buy the Wort Chiller.

I ask all the "time"... for just more time…. , As there never seems to be enough to go around.
Unfortunately stillin and buildin stillin parts always takes the back seat
just a couple of extra days (off the calender) would be SWEET
 bahh! I wont get anything else I ask for either :moresarcasm:
might as well just smile :D

Christmas Wish List

Post by atvman »

I'm looking for some suggestions as to tools or accessories to add to my collection. Last year I got a small pot still for Christmas. One of the 3 gal Chinese ones with the coil that sits on top of the lid. It's been working pretty well, and thanks to this forum I've been able to turn out some pretty good stuff. I made birdwatchers and used it to make some Limoncello and it was delicious. I've made a few variations of rum and I have some of Buccaneer Bob's aging on oak right now. I've got some muscadines that are fermenting now that hopefully makes a nice brandy.

Here's a list of what I have so far
3 gal pot still
buckets for fermenting
alcoholmeter
hydrometer

I was looking at adding a PH meter to the list for testing the wash, but I wasn't sure what to get. Can anyone suggest a good meter and or any other useful tools or accessories?

Hey atvman~
Consider both a gravity and an alcohol refractometer. Simple & sweet.
And if you have a favorite grain shop that offers gift certificates --cha-ching!

With two months to go I am reviving this old post. My kids asked me to give them a Christmas list. At 72 there is not a lot of things I need so I was hoping if people listed their ideas I might come up with more things to add to my list.

At 72 Bushman, I’d put “more time with family & friends” on the list. Best part .. it doesn’t even cost much. “Social gifts” are the best!

That is already a given! Last year we separated families at different tables due to Covid but we still found a way to celebrate together.

A good book by an author of MY choice... and time to read it without someone talking to me, even if I am reading it a second or third time.
My first flute
My press
My twins
My controller

I asked for a copper whiskey helmet. (And some other things verboten to speak of here)

I conned the whole extended family into skipping gift giving this year and going to Mexico instead... I think it will be a great Christmas. 3 generations on the beach, tons of time with family that is usually scattered across 2 states, and of course tequila and pretty women. Plus, Christmas in a strongly religious nation is a pretty big deal.

I used to tell the kids, socks and under ware. Then when they got older I told them booze. Now I tell them to bring a bag of corn, sugar...... And not to drink all my booze without me.

Off topic: my kids are not old enough to figure out what the stills are for in the garage (atleast it’s what i belive)
I just tell them it’s for wine making (i do lots of wine also)
I do fear the day when the realize what dady is producing and i have to hide every bottle :)

On topic: Maybe some homedestill equipment that will make your labor easier?
Like a electric mill for crushing grains, electric pump for transfering mash etc. ?

Something I can use this time of year is union suits. I work outside and don't like a jacket.

Doesn't take much to keep me content. I usually buy or ask for things that make life easier or more comfortable.

This hobby really is not so much about making alcohol. But bottling opportunities to make memories with Friends and Family.

Years ago, I jokingly asked my brother for endless summer. He got me the Beach Boys album named Endless Summer.

Pump - Could go in a number of spots, anything that makes the process smoother, is a win in my book
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073P19L8P/?c ... _lig_dp_it

30-55 gallon barrel Dolly - Move it around easier, keep it off the ground, lose less heat.

Whiskey Specific Yeast
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0128JSA4I/?c ... _lig_dp_it

Alcohol Hydrometer Kit - Nice one, has glass tube, thermometer as well, good cardboard case to hold everything
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XB ... UTF8&psc=1

Specific Gravity Hydrometer
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DT ... UTF8&psc=1

Digital PH Meter - I don't use this much but beats the PH tape IMO
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LM ... UTF8&psc=1

Sight Glass - Depends on your set-up, cheaper than I thought it would be, I can't see anything in my current process and get alot of pukes, this with my new rig will help me see it a hair faster and perhaps avoid re-starts.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075J ... UTF8&psc=1

Clamps and O-Rings, always useful, pending your set-up. Alot of the gaskets that come with clamps are not suited for our purposes?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K ... UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CH ... UTF8&psc=1

Temp Tape - Useful for fermentation Vessels
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078N ... UTF8&psc=1

750ml Bottles - I just re-use commercial bottles, but some may like fresh ones, been hunting some 350ml ones or something smaller, for gifts so I don't have to fork over an entire fifth of the hard earned product.
https://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Bottles-P ... VHGO&psc=1

Steel Funnels - Copper would work too I suppose, but beats using plastic
https://www.amazon.com/Norpro-Stainless ... ERMW&psc=1

Siphon / Racking Cane
