Improved/Modified Charles 803?

Post by Jasonb61 »

Hey, as I stated in my first post, I am about to build a Charles 803. I was wondering if anyone had any tips/revisons for this design? Does anyone know how much fuel it will output? What exactly do I have to do to increase output? I'm new to distilling.

Thanks!

If you haven't ever distilled before you'd be better off to do a bit of experimenting with a small still. The charles803 is not likely the best tool these days. Your first challenge is going to be processing large volume ferments and finding a reasonable way to heat large volumes. Some of the folks on this board have experimented with continuous stills but I think you'd be better off to join this group. They're a very dedicated bunch.

I've been a member over at the Yahoo Alcohol Fuel group that minime mentioned for a while now... They have some good information about the C-803 there... It's worth mentioning that the C-803 is very expensive to build and isn't exactly the easiest column to run... It's a continuous column and until you get the hang of it you may need to reprocess the "low wines" to recoup the ethanol that may not have been distilled the first time through... You'd better have a handle on the distillation process before investing in a beast like the C-803...
